Please give your opinion about these emeralds

Is it possible that these are natural stones? My chealsea filter arrives in a few days, still looking for synthetic emerald filters. Stones or at least most of them do look imperfect with quite a few inclusions, many different cuts and sizes, starting with 1mm/1mm.

What is your intent? Are you in the Trade? Do you plan to use them for a project?

Its hard to tell from that picture, but I'd bet they are natural based on the color and inclusions. Synthetic emerald is typically darker in color and very clean. They may be treated in some way though.

I am not in the trade, and all my expierence with emeralds comes to buying two mineral specimens more than two decades ago. But I do love gems, and I thought I could resell some of these, and keep some while getting some expierence.
I do know that if the deal is too good to be true, it is, however these stones come from an unclaimed security deposit box, auctioned off by the government agency, along with other jewelry, bullion, etc. I am sure they have an appraiser but by now not sure if they are very knowledgeable about emeralds, even though they sell items with emeralds regularly.
I thought, the worst case scenario, I will pay for return shipping and be done with it.
This lot went for $885. The boxes you see are 1 and 1/4th of an inch in diameter. There are probably about 4-500 small and very small stones in total. How much small and tiny natural emeralds really cost? Wouldn't cutting small synthetic stones be cost prohibitive?

I'm not sure who would purchase such tiny melees, given that they are incredibly tiny. At that size, most people go for stones that are very clean. I would hazard a guess of $4 per melee for that quality? I would guess these are likely to be natural although could be heavily clarity enhanced and/or dyed.

I could be wrong, but I doubt that that is the color (if your photo is accurate for color) that people want for emerald melee.

How to check if the stones were dyed ? I ve noticed a few stones that were pretty pale. I got my Chelsea filter finally, the stones look somewhat pinkish, purplish, or even whitish through it. Not many are really red. What does that mean?
Overall, there are a bit more than 82 carats worth of stones, most of the weight are 0.15-0.4 carat stones, a few 0.5 carat and two bigger ones 2.5 each, but plenty of inclusions inside of those two. Some of the 0.2-0.4 carat stones do look very green and clean to unaided eye.
So can you guys tell me if I stuffed myself with this purchase, got a deal or paid a fair price? I feel like all three at the moment.

Also, if I understand correctly synthetic stones can have inclusions also, how common is that

See if you can spot any deeper concentrated green along the veins, pore holes or surface fractures for signs of dyeing. The filter is an inclusive test and should be used to supplement other methods of testing. There are both natural and synthetic emeralds that glow pink/red so it does not prove much, other than chromium content, be it natural or enhanced.

A deal is not a deal unless you can unload it. My biggest concern is HOW you plan to unload these itty bitty stones, given the quality and size. Included emeralds do not sell well whilst the rest are considered very small and of average colouration. Secondly, I love to help posters but am not feeling as generous to those looking to buy with the intent to resell aka Trade because this is a Consumer based forum.

Rather than a Chelsea filter, you need to check the RI of each piece. What you run the risk of, and especially important if you are going to re-sell, you can often find batches of gemstones that have some real and some synthetic mixed together. If the batches are equal in size you might be able to get a buyer but it depends what your expectations are. To give you an indication, I bought a strand of faceted Emeralds (drilled so they could be made into jewellery) with sizes from 2 x 1 to 4 x 2, with the strand at 12" and I paid £35 which is about $50 but that's probably two of your boxes or maybe more?

Of course they are imperfect - it is emerald. And natural course if they produce synthetic emerald they want to have a MUCH better color.

The best you can do is find the " goodies" and keep them ( with a better cut and clarity) and offer the rest in smaller amounts on Ebay - maybe you get your money back....

Or return them!!
