there is a huge difference between a really well cut diamond and a poorer cut one. with the two stones you have listed, one has a 84% table and the other a 67% table. that is a big difference! i''m sure you can imagine what impact that has between these two diamonds. a well cut diamond will always look better and out perform a poor cut.

I have some advice but it may not be along the lines of what you were asking. First of all, do not sacrifice cut. It is the most important of the 4 C's. When you get an excellently cut diamond, you will get a diamond with lots of brilliance, sparkle, and scintillation. And when you get a great cut, you can go down in color and clarity. A very well cut diamond will look very white in the G-I range. Many people here also have very white J's. Also, it will look bigger than a diamond with a poorer cut. And you can go down to at least VS2 clarity. I would look for an SI1. You can find SI1 diamonds that look just like a VVS to the naked eye but you will save yourself alot of $$. I recommend these tips if you want a bigger diamond.

Also, my opinion is to not use BN only because they don't provide all of the info that you will find helpful to evaluate potential diamonds. They don't take pictures, nor do they provide sarin reports. Also, if you are interested, they will not send the diamond out prior to purchase so that you can see it before making a decision.

Does your GF want a very high color and clarity? Or would she rather have a larger diamond?

I''m sorry, i forgot to mention my budget: $3k - $3.2k for the diamond and setting. I would like to set this diamond on the platinum 3 stone setting (baguette side-stones). I''m not looking for size, really looking for quality.

Thanks for the advice so far, keep it coming!

I can't help you with cut quality with Princess Cuts, but you need to decide what quality means to you. A near colourless J SI2 with a terrific cut is great quality and can be a fabulous diamond just as much as a D VVS - it depends on what matters to you personally. Decide what your priority is with clarity and colour, maybe a D VS1 is quality to you - which is fine, you know the size you want, so really get the best cut Princess you can using these parameters. Clarity and colour are important according to personal preference but it is CUT which makes a diamond beautiful and sparkle. Many of the other online vendors provide a lot of info regarding the cut of each diamond, this makes finding the right one much easier. These vendors know their stuff so make full use of their knowledge, expert eyes and experience to help you. Also Belle and some others can help advise you if you post the details of each contender - as much info as possible regarding the proportions of each and any Idealscope images, Sarin Reports, BrillianceScope and so on.

Also don't go by labels pinned on a diamond by a vendor such as Premium Cut, Ideal Cut etc - they don't often mean very much or guarantee you are getting a well cut diamond. Also try to stick to vendors who have the diamonds in house as they will be able to assess each one with you. Some vendors " drop ship" the diamonds which are listed on a database and don't actually see the diamond at all at any time during the sale. Also stay away from very thin girdles in these shapes, they can be prone to chipping.

Hope this helps.

The diamonds you chose all have depth and table percentages too high. Does the girdle matter that much? Slightly thich to thick is not that bad, in my opinion. Furthermore, i thought the GIA report was a must?

I also found the diamond and setting i want at James Allen. Please let me know what you think of this diamond:

Thanks.

every single one of the diamonds julie found for you on bn are the best of the best. ags is the only lab to grade princess cuts diamonds as ''ideal'' and they use ''light performance'' grading to do it. in this case an ags grading report is far better than gia. you are guaranteed a great performing diamond.

After going to several jewelers, i concluded that the previous setting i chose is not for me. The new setting is this one from James Allen:

Can anyone give me some suggestions for diamonds? My budget is up to $3,500.

Thanks.

Roman. You are coming accross as a little arbitrary and a little rude. Julie is someone I would definitely trust as far as diamond opinions go... and so are many of the people here trying to help you.

But you have to help us out a little. James allen can get the same (I''m fairly certain of this... but someone will be along to confirm in a second) princesses in as Blue Nile can if they aren''t BN in house diamonds. So I would advise you to look again that the BN ones Julie was so generous as to post for you.

I realize you are getting your information from different sources... but the folks on here (especially non-industry people like Julie and Storm) do not have hidden agendas and are only trying to help you. So perhaps you could do them the courtesy of learning from them... and appreciating the time they are taking you help you.

You did not even take the time to thank Julie before attacking her choices.

I apologise for coming across as rude. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to help me out. Hearing so many different comments from so many people, all "experts", it''s hard to believe everyone. I take the opinions on this forum more seriously than the ones i received at the store. I don''t questions anyone''s expertise, just looking for a few suggestions. Once again, thanks for all the replies.

Love the new setting you picked.

Let me explain my BN choices: they all have 0 light performance. They all have 0 proportions, because I didn''t want you to lose on spread. and they all have 0 or 1 for finish.

There are those three Infinity stones I listed earlier.

Understood. I tried searching for those diamonds on James Allen''s website, however, no luck. The other diamonds i found on JA''s website all have the GIA report. Thanks for the prompt response and good information Julie.

There''s nothing wrong with GIA princess as long as you can get an Ideal Scope or ASET image (which James Allen will provide free if the stone is in-houe.) It''s just that BN doesn''t provide either, so the next best thing to do is get an AGS princes.

Thanks for the advice Julie. Can you recommend some diamonds from jamesallen.com? Thanks for all your help.

Can someone post the aboslute ideal specs for a princess cut?

Ignoring colour, carat and clarity, I''m wondering about cut. Specifically:

Table %
Depth %
Cutlet
Girdle

Thanks in advance! I''ve really enjoyed reading your posts thus far.

Roman so you know, very few of us are experts with diamonds. The experts on this site in the industry are easy to identify when you read their posts. Most of us are mainly just consumers who have a passion for diamonds and some knowledge and spend our time trying to share what we know with newbies who may not have purchased a diamond before

. Trust but verify, if you doubt the info that the posters are providing, check it out yourself, everything you need is in the tutorial section at the top of the page under knowledge for you to use. Also make full use of your vendor's expertise when you are choosing a diamond. Have you looked at any of the diamonds Julie found for you? Julie has obviously spent a lot of time learning and researching, so it would be good if you could maybe consider some of the diamonds she chose for you, these are safe choices which should blow anyone's socks off!

i''ll offer an opinion in the meantime...

the first one is....okay.... if it''s everything you want color, clarity and sizewise, have it brought in and get some photos and idealscope images of it. beware of the ''thin'' girdle.
the second was says ''no longer available''
the third and fourth are shallow. i wouldn''t take the chance on them.

you really should consider the ags0 ones from bn. i think that is your safest bet.

What do you think of the second one? It''s still available according to the rep on the phone.

Second one is no longer availabe...did you get it?

Bought it. Thanks for all the help Julie. I think my decision was right. I will follow-up with pictures. Thanks all.
