Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to learn as much as I can over the past couple of weeks on here to become as informed as possible before posting a question. I have to say that this is a fantastic reference point for anyone that hadn't even thought of buying an engagement ring until recently!
So I have perused 100s of pictures and read 1000s of posts and I have settled on going with LM to create a HW-style halo for my girlfriend's ering. I live on the East Coast and so VC would just be too far should I ever want to stop by NYC, and I have really liked every LM ring I have ever seen. I also like the supposed attitude (for some it is either good for bad), but for a novice like me - having a jeweler that has strong opinions on the minutiae of what looks good and what doesn't is a good thing for me (I think).
As a result, I reached out to LM and I have been working with Perry to find a ~2.0 ct old mine brilliant cushion with a slightly elongated shape. He has sent me a couple over that I was hoping I could get some feedback while keeping in mind the setting. Good or bad - let me have it!
Now, I know that these stones really need to be seen to make an informed decision, but I am sure there are some rules of thumb that will make some stones more attractive/better value for this setting than others - things like depth, table %, culet size, etc. Please let me know if there are any red flags that I should be aware of in the GIA reports for this type of stone and setting. I am concerned about the depth (too high?) and what an optimum table % should be a for this type of stone in this type of setting. You can see that the table %s vary widely.
I am not sure of the rules on attaching videos, but Perry sent me a link to a youtube video and another as a .mov. Happy to include those in a future post as long as it is permitted on here.
The 3 stones that I have narrowed it down to have the following specs:
OMB
1.79 E VS2
7.28x6.81x4.74
T: 56%
D: 69.6%
C: Slightly Large
G: Thin-Thick
P: VG
S: VG
F: None
OMB
2.01 G VS2
7.87x6.99x4.88
T: 50%
D: 69.8%
C: Slightly Large
G: Thin-Thick
P: Excellent
S: VG
F: None
OMB
2.33 F VS1
8.21x7.71x4.88
T: 46%
D: 68.1%
C: Slightly Large
G: V Thin-Med
P: Excellent
S: VG
F: None
As it stands now and based on what I know, the 2.01 G is my favourite based on the l/w dimensions, ct size and price point. There is a feather that you can see on the GIA report. Should I be concerned with this? Or is there no way to tell?
I have attached 3 of the GIA reports.
Sorry for the long first ever post - but I appreciate and look forward to your feedback!
