Hi All

Please help me decide on 2 diamond options:
Option 1
GIA Certified ,round brilliant
Colour :G
Cut: excellent
Polish: very good
Symmetry: excellent
Clarity:SI2
Flouresence: medium blue

Option 2:
Colour:H
Cut: excellent
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: excellent
Clarity:VS2
Flouresence: none

Option 1 colour is cheaper than Option 2. Would a medium blue flouresence be ok with a colour G.

Hard to give opinions without any pictures/videos and reports to see the angles. Excellent cut doesn’t really mean anything. What size are the diamonds and what are the inclusions in the SI2?

Hi sally and welcome! We will need more than just those infos, if you have the GIA reports, or at least the table and depth percentage, and crown and pavilion angles. Also, if you wish, your budget and preferred specs.

“GIA excellent” encompasses a very wide range of cutting parameters, and only a narrowed-down number of those stones would actually score Ideal on AGS. Without numbers, we can’t help effectively.

Thank you for the response. See attached both GIA certificatesScreenshot_20210412-201223_Gallery.jpg

Hi and thank you for the response. See attached GIA certificate.
the G colour is cheaper than the H colour. But just not sure about the medium blue flouresence.

Unfortunately neither of them are great in terms of cut. Are these your only 2 options ?

How are you able to tell that? Even if the GIA certificate says execellent cut.

Unfortunately GIA excellent isn’t always good. You can have a lot of light leakage which doesn’t return sparkle/fire, which is what you want a diamond to do. Even excellent cut can be dull and lifeless.

Run the two through the HCA and post the results https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

thank you for the response, does that mean both are not really worth considering as it has a score of above 2. I do have another option and GIA certificate if you can get the score for me as well I will highly appreciate itScreenshot_20210412-203514_Drive.jpg

This one is a little better, but I personally don’t consider anything unless the light return, fire and scintillation are excellent

In general, you want to stick to the following:

Table: 54-58
Depth: 60.5-62.4
Crown: 34-35 (35.5 can work with 40.6 pavillion)
Pavillion: 40.6-40.8 (41 can work with 34 crown)

I also wouldn't consider that one without an ASET or other light performance images because it is deeper than recommended with a steep crown angle.

What does ASET mean?.

thank you for the response, how do I find an excellent Light return, usually on the GIA certificate they don't mention those. Would the score of 2.3 be better then? Even though Option 2 clarity is VS2 and option 3 has a lower clarity of SI1.

They are talking about "Excellent" light return on the HCA calculator.

Yes, the score of 2.3 is much better.

An ASET is a tool to assess light performance of diamonds. https://yourdiamondguru.com/grading/aset/

Hi Sally,

The "cut" is the most important spec of a stone. If you dont have a well-cut stone that reflects light well then the color and
clarity dont really matter too much. GIA Excellent range is very broad and contains stones that really arent that well-cut.

If you stick to the numbers @lovedogs posted it will help you pick out a well-cut stone. If you have a low crown you need
a higher pavilion angle and vice versa.

I dont recommend any of the ones you listed.

If you give us your budget we can show you what you can get online. These would be well-cut stones.

Thank you. Which option would you recommend then.
To be honest I wouldn't recommend any of these. But if you are willing to let us know your budget and desired size, color, clarity then we can help you find alternatives.

Not gonna happen with a $3200 budget. I'm guessing more like $4700. Here's a ACA H SI1 for $5100

This budget will be hard to find something with those specs. If you drop down to .85 you can get a top notch diamond for ~$3600 and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a .85 and a .90 https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4361923.htm
