As you’ll see from my previous posts I’ve been hoping for an engagement ring upgrade for quite a while!! Well, finally we have taken the plunge & purchased a beautiful E colour 1ct chunky pear. I have a size 2 finger (tiny!).

Now I need to design the setting! I currently wear a platinum marquis & round diamond wedding ring with (now somewhat faint) milgrain edges:

As you can see from the photos below I’m ALL OVER THE PLACE!!

I want a setting that doesn’t match my wedding ring exactly, but compliments it. I quite like a gap between the rings so I can see they are two separate rings.

Please do let me know what you think or suggest ideas of your own!

My first thought was a micro pave band which tapers to the pear. Feels a little vintage:

I have a slight concern that the marquis in the band will look dull next to so many bright rounds in the micro pave (they do tend to look a bit dark when not in bright light).

An alternative to this would be a band which didn’t taper but maybe too modern for my wedding band:

This is cute but I’m wondering if too matchy matchy?

I love, love, love this (in platinum) but husband says it looks like a fly. Clearly he has zero taste.

This is also cute!

All pretty options! Have you considered a solitaire with a plain shank?

I am obsessed with solitaires right now, specifically with a plain shank but I do really love the rose gold one you posted :)

For me It’s either play it safe with #2 or sort of vintage matchy with #3.and I would kill for a size 2 finger!

But if I was to choose one of the ones you posted to go with your wedding band and the vintage feel I’d go with the last picture you posted. It just makes most sense visually with your wedding ring. Again. Just my opinion. Have fun deciding!!

I prefer #3. More of matchy-matchy but still different.

Honestly, you're the only one that can decide what you want. (I know you were just looking for comments though).

I really like #3, I think it will complement your band without looking too similar to it. No right or wrong though, so go with what you love!

I think we are leaning towards #2. Going in the see the jeweller tomorrow to get their thoughts. Also thinking of wearing it with my green diamond eternity ring rather than my wedding ring 90% of the time which will stop me worrying about the marquis.

Not really to be honest! It seemed to clash with my other rings a little. I do wear a plain RHR (Cartier JUC in RG) & will be adding a plain RG band to my right hand sometime next year as part of a marriage blessing. I feel I can then wear a bit of bling on my left hand

The rose one is so pretty! My wedding set is platinum but the rest of my high end jewellery is rose gold. I love it!

I think we are leaning towards #2 but yes a size 2 finger is pretty awesome as it makes even the smallest diamonds look huge. I’ll be going from a 0.3ct so it’ll be a big change!

I personally love a pear with a halo. Especially one with a plain shank like this.5F72C712-9D18-4798-8196-B1D499839724.jpeg
I really like the halo look. I think if I was going with a smaller pear, say 0.75ct, I definitely would have added a halo. As it is, the diamond I’ve picked looks substantial enough on its own. I might consider a halo in the the future when DSS sets in!

That one definitely does seem to match best

I agree #2....

I like #s 3 and 4. I think they'd complement your band while not be overly matchy.

This one so good! Like it!

I like #2 the best, though it WOULD be hard to pass up something as hilarious as a "fly."

I LOVE, LOVE LOVE the one that looks like a "fly" too! Get what YOU love as you are going to be the one looking at it all day and all night long!!!! It has "angel wings" not fly wings anyway! HA!

Also love chunky pears too, what are the stats on your stone?

I also love pears in graduated halos like this one on JA:

Check out the pics on the reviews

I once saw an old cut pear with graduated rose cuts and it was amazing!

Excited to see the final results of what you choose!

Went back to the store today to hand back the diamond (brought it home to show my husband!). Took the opportunity to try on some more bands. Now leading towards something like #1. The tapered band did look lovely.

I also tried on something similar to this which was surprisingly lovely (I thought I wouldn’t like how matchy matchy it was).

We are going back to the store on Friday to agree all the details. Very exciting!!!

I guess I’m avoiding posting the stats because I don’t think it’s a PS stone!! It’s a 1.01ct, E colour VS1. However, it’s cut pretty shallow so I get a fatter pear shape (my favourite) and no bow tie! I accept I’ll loose a little sparkle for that but for me, the compromise was worth it

No reason to avoid posting the stats: there is no PS stone, everyone's taste is different...it's your diamond and it's your taste: I' m absolutely sure many PSers will be delighted to see your stone and to know more about it!

Ah thank you @purplesilk. I’m sure once the ring is made I’ll be super proud & there will be no stopping me from posting it everywhere!

Just shows there is no substitute for seeing settings in person!! Hubby & I went to try on settings & ended up going for something completely different! They said it’ll be 2-3 weeks so I’ll be waiting with baited breath!!
