Hello everyone,

I’ve been looking for a round diamond for about a week or two. We have been to a couple stores in NYC and didn’t see anything we want. Today a salesperson of one of the stores sent us an email about this diamond:

567E84D3-133D-4614-8627-DEB55BDE09A5.jpeg
It says “recently sold” but they told me it is available now since the original buyer decided to go for a bigger stone. Price is $12,280.

GIA: 6442626314

Everything about this stone is in our range, carat size, clarity, cut, color. However, my boyfriend and I have no idea the rest of the GIA report means.

Is this a good diamond to buy for the price?

Thank you in advance.

I thought that pic is a video lol... Based on the proportions, this stone should perform very well.,. do you have the video? Have you seen it in person? I think the price is good too for the spec... probably becasue of the fluro

I have a J strong blue and it faces up very white.... but I'm not sure D with strong fluro though.... gotta see it for yourself.... see it in store lighting and sunlight by the windows... dont think they will allow you to bring it outside for viewing under direct sunlight though :)

I think most of the 'experts' (not sales folks, just buyers with a lot f experience with well cut diamonds) would tell you to be cautious about a D with strong fluoresence. Seeing it in person under varied lighting (outside, in sun, in shade, non-jewelry store lighting would be suggested, I think. It is closer to a 60/60 diamond. Equally white and colored light (fire).

Many of the folks here prefer different 'numbers' (i.e. smaller table) You will probably get more folks responding in a bit.

Sorry I took a screenshot from the email they sent me I had to look through their inventory but here is the link: https://www.laurenbjewelry.com/prod...pe=1&weight=1.3,1.7&color=1 - 4&clarity=1 - 6

I have seen the stone when I visited the store, it’s stunning. You’re spot on about the flo. There is slight blue tint in UV light but my parner and I don’t have trained eyes. For security reasons they didn’t allow us to bring the stone outside so I have no idea how it looks like. Would the stone looks dark or extremely blue under the sun?

Wow thank you I already learned so much. I have seen it in person and it looked good to us but we know nothing about diamond… We didn’t get to see it outside, though it still looks nice under hallway lights. What would be the desirable table numbers?

I agree with cmsmarks on being cautious about the strong fluorescence and on it being closer to a 60/60 diamond. It may favor a bit more brightness over fire. We generally recommend a table size of 54-58% to get more balanced performance, like with this stone:

Most stones will look great in jewelry store lighting. The superbly cut ones will perform well in a wider variety of lighting.

Putting preferences/opinions aside about fluor, stones with strong fluor trade for less money than those with none to faint. And many that like fluor may give pause to a D color with strong fluor as it can emit a blue hue when exposed to the correct UV lighting and strength. Again, not saying this is good or bad -- but know the price may be "artificially low" because of these factors -- or at least it should be if priced properly for the market since they trade lower.

I'm not sure your specific ranges, but here are some alternatives. For your budget, you have some super ideal options on the table that take the guess work out of choosing superior performance.

WF ACA 1.233 F/SI1 @ $10,071 wire

Below budget. Proportions are freaking amazing. Look at the fire video -- it makes my heart jump a few beats. You give up some color and clarity but unless you are super color sensitive, the color is negligible to most folks if at all. And the stone is eye clean so you're maximizing your dollars.

WF ACA 1.203 E/VS2 @ $11,902 wire

Another strong performer right at your budget. Gives you a slight bump on color & clarity. It comes at the expense of non-meaningful carat weight difference. Visually to the naked eye the stone will look the same size as the differences are so minimal.

There are some other options out there, but figured this was a good starting point. I might add WF has one of the best upgrade programs. You simply spend an equal or greater amount on a different diamond and you get full value of your original purchase. No other red tape or hoops to jump through. Very easy and beneficial for the buyer. In comparison, both JA and Lauren B require you spend 2x the original amount each time you upgrade.

Also, if you purchase a designer band/setting through WF, then there is a 50% upgrade benefit available. To my knowledge they are the ONLY guys to offer any upgrade policies on settings.
