Hello everyone!

This is my first post. My name is Rob and I have been searching for the right gemstone for an engagement ring. I am hoping to find a beautiful mahenge spinel and I need help. The right stone would be very very slightly included ( if not IF), around 3 carats, and neon/orange pink.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest certain websites or precision cutters to continue my search.

Thank you very much!

Rob

I would either call or email Primagems, then drop by their office to see a selection of spinels to select the final stone, if at all possible.

I was wondering about your reasoning for an almost IF gem because unlike diamonds, eye clean is the coloured stone standard. To require IF will definitely make the search much more difficult and longer. I would also aim for a stone with fluorescence and make sure that it doesn't become muddy under indoor lighting.

Color typically masks many small inclusions too. They're not as big a deal as they would be in a colorless stone like a white diamond. Don't get super hung up on tiny inclusions in a colored stone.

You've gotten good advice. The fluorescence will make the stone look like it's glowing under sunlight. Indoors, however, without the Fluor, you should make sure it still looks bright

Thank you for the responses. Primagems was a valuable resource, though I am hoping for a precision cutter instead. I have contacted several precision cutters about possibly sourcing me a stone or rough material that would meet my hopes. Any suggestions for precision cutters who would be willing to search for me?

Thanks everyone!

There is a "sticky" at the top of this forum (Colored Stones) with a list of respected vendors - precision cutters among them. There's no point in us giving you names/websites if you've already contacted some. Best to look at the list, their website and make your choices based on who you've already contacted.

Thanks everyone!

Note that even when looking for a precision cut stone, not everyone cuts to the same calibre; some cut better than others.
