Hello all! Thanks for your help!

This is a ring my grandmother wore, but my mom can’t remember any details. I am having a hard time capturing the pattern on the phone. It’s not the bubbly floral one like an OEC but has what looks like a higher crown than an MRB maybe

Second question that is more subjective! Should I reset it or is this a look you would rotate in? If I reset, I was thinking a five stone vintage/antique look to match how old this stone might be. But my family is sentimental, so maybe not!

Thanks again for your help and thoughts.

Looks like a definitive OEC to my eyes. OEC typically has a noticeably taller crown than MRB.

[EDIT]
Forgot to add...those look like OEC melee in the halo, as well. Might be worth leaving it alone!

Looks like an OEC to me too. That one halo stone at 12:00 doesn't look like an OEC to me but most of them do (from what I can see).

There are some OEC "experts" on PS....I'm not one of them!

Wow, that’s so beautiful! That is a wonderful ring to inherit!

I agree with the above that it’s an OEC and that most of the surrounding diamonds are OECs as well. Beautifully made. I would leave it and wear it as is (except maybe replace the newer stone in the halo with an OEC that matches the others).

Leave it be it’s gorgeous and yes an OEC though one of the littles looks mrb maybe one fell out and was replaced with a modern?

So gorgeous!

 That's a treasure of an oec cluster, right there. It's also in fantastic shape. You have something special.

Gorgeous and don’t reset!

the center stone is AMAZING!

Definitely an OEC, and in my opinion, definitely a wearable setting! Plenty of people wear RHRs or engagement rings like this, and it's a style that looks just as good with a tshirt and jeans as it does with an evening gown. Looks like a great cut on the center stone imo. Wear it and enjoy it!

Agree with @Tourmaline that it looks like a late-leaning OEC/early transitional, with a -- slightly! -- lower crown, better symmetry, smaller culet, and longer lower halves than would put me in strict OEC territory. And drop-dead gorgeous. :D Early transitionals are my faaaaaaaavorite.

Oh my goodness, wow, I'm so overwhelmed by all of your expertise (THANK YOU for your amazing eyes!) and thoughtful comments! I feel like I have learned so much even about what an OEC/transitional could look like. I definitely knew the flowery/bubbly pattern was OEC, and that's about it.

I have zero experience seeing real old cuts in person. I can definitely tell there is a difference in color from the center stone to the smaller ones around it. You are all so right, too (again, amazing eyes!) - it's all a bit wonky all around. Some of the prongs are a bit off, the stones in the halo (or what you would call this setting) don't really match, from different table sizes to at least one of them set crooked.

You've also really made me quite sentimental thinking about my grandmother, who passed away 15 years ago. She lived with us and was a big part of my childhood; I just wish I had more memories to recall as the years pass. My mom and aunts were reorganizing everything and just thought I should have this, as they all said I was her first and favorite grandchild. Though they may have just said the last part to make me feel good. :)

The only reason I was thinking about resetting is that I'm not quite sure how much I would wear it, though I will try it as a RH ring! I only really wear a few pieces daily: engagement ring and wedding band, a bracelet from my mom, and a tiny three-stone necklace that is actually my mom's first engagement ring from my dad that my grandmother helped him pick out (definitely not super ideals that didn't exist back then, shallow cuts , leakage, but...that's life!).

I have read so much of your great advice to others and really appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise and thoughts with me.

P.S. Thank you @tyty333 , @ringo865 , @Mreader for the head's up on the newer stone that got added in there! Maybe that's the one change!

The ring is gorgeous! I think you could absolutely wear it as is, though if you’d like to get it “rehabbed” to make sure that no prongs are about to break or that the stones are adequately protected, I would do that. It’s a lovely ring and that centre stone is my personal favourite brand of old cuts! It is just perfection!!

Edit to add: you never know btw, it might be that the small MRB might have always been there. My mom has some pieces of my grandmother’s jewelry including a brooch which is like a long line (maybe 15 stones) of small diamonds. Most of them are MRBs, but there are 3-4 OECs and one OMB amongst them - and that brooch has not been altered from the day it was bought by my grandmom!

Looks like an OEC to my untrained eyes, and it is lovely, thanks for sharing!
