I’m trying to decide between these two. Of course I can’t make this decision without input from my favorite community of diamond enthusiasts. Both are GIA diamonds.
Here are links -

The 2 cuts are very different. It depends if you want more of a step cut look (emerald) or sparkle (radiant). With step cuts especially in larger carats, you'll definitely be able to see color and warmth more easily, so not sure if you're color sensitive...

I love both. That’s why it’s a tough decision. Did you take a look at both videos?, which one looks better?

I think you’ll find the emerald cut to be more timeless. I think the radiant may go in and out of fashion more than an EC Which seems to never age, fashion wise. I think EC are so stylish and so elegant. I don’t get that from radiant. But both great stones.

What do these cost?
I would try and get under 4 cts and not get a k
I would absolutely not buy a k radiant.

They are both slightly under 40k. From the video, the radiant K looks more like a J.

I don’t think the radiant looks like it’s color grade. They both do.

if you want a white diamond I wouldn’t get either of these and I’d drop in size. Both of these will be noticeably tinted.

Respectfully, I don't find either stone to be attractive. I think they are both cut sub-optimally. Because of that, they both show more color than I'd expect and don't reflect light the way I want a diamond to

An emerald cut certainly is more classic. I personally would not buy an emerald cut lower than an F in color and VVS in clarity, as I am extremely color and clarity sensitive. I would either save up more to have a bigger budget to work with, or consider a lab diamond. I do think emerald cuts look best in larger carats.

Just FYI...

You do realize that radiants arent really appreciated among the PS crowd?

If you asked the general population you may* get a different result/answer (or not).

Really?, I had no idea! I thought that radiant stone was beautiful especially at a FL clarity, but I guess I was wrong

I’ve thought about lab diamonds, looked at them but I can’t get myself to do it. I do agree emerald cuts are classic and timeless. I’m not color sensitive and should be Ok with H and lower. But the clarity with emerald is the big issue. Aghhhhhhhhh decisions, decisions. I’ll up my budget to 44k and see what I can get.

Do you have other recommendations under $43k?

My message didnt have anything to do with that specific stone (the radiant). I think you missed my point.
It has to do with a general observation around pricescope. I think its a pretty well known opinion among most
PSers that have been here a long time.

In my opinion its a pretty radiant. (nothing to do with FL clarity)

There’s no way I’d rather have FL clarity than a higher color in a fancy cut! No. Way. I’d never go below a G/H for fancy cuts unless I was looking specifically for a tinted diamond. I’d probably stick to F/G personally bc color really shows in both of these cuts, and the larger the more color shows.

If you like warmth in diamonds, that’s different. But dropping so many color grades for size, especially in such a large diamond just doesn’t seem worth it unless it’s your true desire

This is my 2 cents but I expect many PSers might agree. Warmth is personal preference , but again if you expect a WHITE rock these are not going to fit the bill, and the whole “it looks way whiter than it’s grade” is just not true (I’m not suggesting you are making that claim, but I’d encourage you to ignore people that do)

Oh I see. Thank you for clarifying. I haven’t been here long. My search for this stone actually brought me here. Quite a lovely community with a wealth of information.

Thank you very much for your input. I love warmth in diamonds when it’s crisp and clean. Its one of the characteristics of a natural diamond that I find fascinating. Thankfully for my wallet, I’m not a fan of the icy, cold look of a colorless diamond, I think CZ when I see those.

Well then that’s great! I just wanted to make sure that you knew what you were getting! We all have our own priorities

A few things....
1) did you skip an "s" in your user name ( I love me a Porsche)

2)
I thought that radiant stone was beautiful especially at a FL clarity,

there's a general misconception that clarity grades make a diamond more or less beautiful...the clarity grade speaks only to the presence of imperfection.
A super well cut I1, who's imperfection is hidden, can be far more beautiful and a "meh" cut Flawless diamond....

3) @tyty333 is so correct.
I gave up defending Radiant cuts ( I love them too) years ago here on PS.......

I personally really like radiant cuts! I like both the diamond cuts you selected. I feel like I would choose the radiant because I like more sparkle/fire flashes, rather than broad color flashes that you get with the emerald cut. Don't feel bad, people on PS don't like radiant cuts for whatever reason. As to color, I LOVE warm diamonds. I have both a D and a J and I love my J. Either of these would be very pretty paired with yellow or rose gold.

I don't love the emerald because I worry about the bowtie effect being prominent. I like the radiant even though that cut isn't usually my favorite.

As already mentioned by some of the others, the type of cut is very personal, and radiants and ECs are very different except for the overall shape!

I don't like radiants for their crushed ice look, and am an EC/step cut fan through and through - EC is my favourite cut, closely followed by OEC.

Therefore, my own personal preference would be an EC.

Each to their own and all that.

DK :))

HI:

Any (particular) urgency? Have you looked at the threads on PS...for radiant cuts and step cuts?

I know there is another emerald/step cut thread...but I keep losing my posts....sooo lucky I got this far...... :)

cheers--Sharon

If I had to chose between the two, I would chose the emerald. BUT, if I had an actual choice I would prefer a lower carat and a higher colour emerald. In saying that, everyone prioritises the 4 Cs differently. Are you wanting a white diamond, or are you more focused on having a large diamond?

Haha! Totally skipped the ‘s’. I guess I suck at spelling as I do in finding diamond . Thanks for your input. I do prefer emerald, I find radiants fascinating, and was ready to explore it, but I found another emerald cut, the ASET blew me away, so I may go with that just based on the Aset! What do you think? https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/3.50-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-12417618

Thank you. I stopped buying Ds because I can’t tell the difference between them and CZ. There’s something romantic about warm diamonds, I just love them. My local jeweler told me that you can’t really say it’s a warm diamond until you get to M. Ha!

Thank you for sharing these, I’ve had qhite the fun perusing the threads. I’ve always loved emerald cuts. It’s familiar territory to me. I was just looking to explore radiants, you know try something new and all. Not quite working out. I think I’ll miss the step cut.

I always go for H and lower recently. Icy cold white is not my thing. I found this and really love what I see on the Aset. I looked at the report and saw that it was graded recently on August 5. Why they chose IGI, I would probably never know. But I do know IGI has been stricter lately in a bid to mend their bad reputation. If I do get it, I would send it in to GIA to be graded again.
