Hi all, a vendor just sent me the videos of these 3 ECs. It's a concierge service so I will pay a small fee to have him bring it in to take live videos, ASET, and let us see it in person. I like all 3 but am gravitating towards asking him to bring in 2 and 3. What do you think? Anything else I should consider?

Diamond 1

Diamond 2

Diamond 3 (He's assured me it's eye clean)

Are there more diamonds available in your budget that don't have dark characteristics? It looks like the inclusions in number 3 are reflecting. That would be a no for me. What are the specs you're looking for? Many here would help with your search.

Thanks Diamond Girl. The vendor has already assured me that it's eye clean and won't affect it.

I am not sure what you mean by dark characteristic? To me it looks more a reflection of the on/off nature of step cuts, as it moves, the steps go on and off. Or are you referring to something else?

Also, edit to add I just saw your ring and it is stunning! Wear it in good health. :)

I meant the inclusions in the diamonds are dark in color. Everything is really enlarged by the size of the pictures, so they probably are eye clean. I would just make sure, because it's so easy to see inclusions in a step cut.

Thank you! I'm excited for you to pick your emerald cut. Enjoy the process and get the one that makes your heart sing!

#3 has a tiny crown height which is not a good sign.
As for and link any other supplier videos and the numbers from the report for 1 and 2.

Thanks @Karl_K. The vendor doesn't have any other videos at the moment. Will have to call it in for filming. These are the numbers he gave me:

Diamond 1:
Polish: EX
Symmetry: EX
Table: 64.5
Depth: 66.4
Girdle: Medium
Crown Angle: 29
Pavillion Angle: 39.5
Crown Height: 15%
Pavillion Depth: 48.5

Diamond 2
Polish: EX
Symmetry: EX
Table: 67
Depth: 63.7
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Crown Angle: 16
Pavilion Angle: 37.8
Crown Height: 12%
Pavilion Depth: 47.5%

Diamond 3:

Polish:EX
Symmetry: EX
Table: 63.5
Depth: 66.4
Girdle: Medium
Crown Angle: 23.2
Pavilion Angle: 41.4
Crown Height: 13
Pavilion Depth: 49.5%

How do these look? Any worth calling in to view in person? To my not expert eye diamond 3 looks lovely with the steps flashing up and down. But it also appears to go "all dark" at once.

1 is the best of the 3 both numbers and video.
There should be better ones out there than 2&3.

Thanks @Karl_K for your advice. Based on the video, does 1 have areas of significant leakage or perform poorly? I am not expecting top of the line performance, but something that is going to be bright and relatively sparkly.

I will alao ask the vendor to source for some more to look at and see what he comes up with.

The vid is not enough info to make its a good one call a it has potential is the most that can be said.
For example the majority of the video is a view you will never see mounted and is irrelevant.
Face up and some tilt and what it does as its moved in that range is important.
A reasonable crown height and table % helps with that.

Thanks Karl. Are there any parameters (e.g. crown height, table etc) that I should ask him to look for?

It varies a little table % up to 66 with a crown height of 14%+ but a 67 table with a high crown height can work well also if everything else works well together but they are usually on the low side for crown height.

Hi @Karl_K , the vendor sourced another few stones for me to consider. Could you take a look at these 4 and let me know which ones have potential? Thanks for your help!

Table: 63.5
Crown height: 14%
Depth 64.4%

Table: 63%
Crown height: 13.5
Depth:62.9%

Table: 62%
Crown Height: 13.5
Depth: 62.4%

Table 63.5%
Crown Height 14.5
Depth: 62.8

tough one, they are similar and the vids are not very optimal for piking from similar stones Can you get face up still images?

Do you know if the person helping you has actually seen the diamonds they are offering?
Many of our shoppers ask for an informal video (like an iphone video).
The reason ( I suspect)?
The majority of sites offering diamonds are not actually in possession of the diamonds they are offering.
Sadly, many vendors make assurances without actually having seen the diamond.
How would one know if a diamond is eye clean, if they are not looking at an actual diamond?

@musicloveranthony , thanks, I feel the same way too. It's pretty hard to pick these out online!

Hi @Rockdiamond , the vendor doesn't have the stone on hand (it's a concierge service) but for a small fee he could bring in the ones shortlisted for ASET and videos etc.
It would be nice if he had the diamonds on hand of course, but his prices are reasonable (in our country, diamonds are very expensive) and I love the idea of supporting a local small business where I live.

this one has potential but im not saying any of the others dont. The imaging is awful.

Those images are like viewing the diamond from 3-4 inches, the camera is blocking way more light then your face would in normal viewing.

This is another one that maybe just stands out a tiny bit more than some of the others.
Obstruction but little leakage.

Thanks @Karl_K . How do I see and look for leakage and obstruction in photos? I am trying to learn what I can about step cuts.

Response to obstruction* is dark, usually black in photos unless the camera is a different color.
In person its literally you that it is drawing light from.
Leakage is the same color as the background and very hard to judge on a grey background.

*Response to obstruction is often shortened to
"obstruction" when talking about it.
