Hello, I am new to collecting colored genstones and have been searching for an untreated, natural, emerald cut morganite. I have found this and it seems to meet all of my “criteria”. Natural, at least eye clean, unheated....

The seller was kind enough to send me a video and while it is very pale, at least in the video it looked quite clear. It is important for me that it is unheated which seller said it was when I specifically asked. But the price seems too good to be true. I feel like I am missing something... is there something I am not seeing?

I would appreciate anyone’s input. Thank you!

Do you prefer a peachy or more pink morganite? For the size and color, I think that morganite is priced a bit high to right on. Morganite is not expensive until you get over a certain carat weight (not sure which).

For reference, the morganite in my avatar is untreated, internally flawless, 1.85 carats, cut by Gary at Finewater gems and I believe I paid $150 for it. My photo doesn’t do it justice and although it isn’t one of my most expensive gems, it is one of my favorites. I know most people don’t talk about price on here, but I like to share if I think I got a good deal.

I don't see a video link in the listing ??? Based on the single photo, the Morganite is very very pale to the point of being faintly pinkish white, and the step-cut has been cut such that it will look like there is a big window (see through to your finger) ... even if you want a very white-pink Morganite, I think you can do better than this particular stone. If you are enraptured with it, however, and the vendor has a solid return policy, then buy it and examine it in person.

It's a very meeeh colour IMHO.

Just goes to show what a newbie I am. I didn't even notice the window. I kind of thought it was a bit pale but I do like those emerald cuts... and I think that is what drew me in, since I haven’t seen any other morganite (unheated) in this cut. But I don’t want to see straight through to my finger.

But I value everyone’s input and I think I should pass and wait for “the one”. I just don’t really know where to look. I have looked all through the recommended vendors list and have not seen any emerald cut morganite. It’s my unicorn gem ;)

I’m still learning and to me, when I see a loupe clean, 3ct, $5,000 gem next to a loupe clean, 3ct, $500 gem it gets pretty confusing! So thank you all for your input. Seems these are good things to think about...

If anyone has any suggestions as to vendors for morganite, I am all ears. I have looked all over etsy, internet search, vendor list...

I agree. I think HC47 can do better with color, clarity and cut for the same price.

That gem in your avatar is beautiful... it’s the perfect color!

It is definitely almost white/clear in the video vendor emailed me :(

Thank you!! I had wanted a morganite for a while and knew this one was it.

Morganite is typically irradiated quite a bit these days. I'm not sure if this treatment is detectable.

Bummer... I did talk to an etsy jeweler who seemed to have some beautiful ones. Beautiful but yes, she said they are mostly heated and there’s no way for anyone to tell one from the other. Which was somewhat disappointing because I kind of like the gems as they are. A little pale doesn’t really bother me too much...

I recommend reaching out to Johannes Orstadius via Facebook. I bought a lovely little emerald cut morganite from him, and he usually has a pretty deep selection.
