Hello everyone!

I was hoping someone here would be able to help me with some ASET images for two oval diamonds.

Could someone please help me interpret the ASET images?

While researching ovals on here, I have read about the August Vintage cut ovals and how beautifully cut they are, however this is an anniversary upgrade, so unfortunately I am locked into using the vendor my husband originally purchased my ring from. That being said, what does everyone think of these two stones?

I greatly appreciate any help or advice you have! Thank you!!

The colours in the ASETscope images show where the light is coming from:

699634

Blue shows obstruction/contrast from the camera / the viewer's head.

Red shows light gathered from the area round the viewer's head.

Green shows light gathered from the wider environment.

The above are pretty good ASETs for 'classic' ovals (i.e. not stones that Rhino has developed) - quite a lot of green across the stone, rather than quite a lot of leakage in the areas away from the middle (said leakage tends to be seen in most).

Personally speaking I think the first looks like it will be more 'balanced' across the stone, whereas the second appears to have a strong band of facets across the middle (which might be at risk of a dark 'bow-tie' effect when viewed up close).

It is your taste that counts, though :) Do you have a preference?

Thank you so much for the reply and advice! I actually liked the second one better (mainly because it is larger, to be honest), but larger isn’t better if it’s a dud and doesn’t sparkle.
Thank you for clarifying the ASET images and what I should be looking for!

I do not like the ASET black, but both appear to be very nice.

If you have the diamond(s) on Hold with the vendor (so they can't be poached from under you) post the link up so we can see the video :)

Yes, I have both diamonds on hold. Here are the videos, I really appreciate you both taking the time to help me with this!

Ok, so I think my initial thoughts are still the same - the larger one has that stronger central band of facets, whereas the smaller one is perhaps more balanced across the stone.

Neither is right or wrong - it is personal taste which 'flavour' you prefer :)

Both 'window' (go somewhat see-through) at the extremes of the rotation (so about 75 degrees left and right in the videos) but that seems to be the case in most 'classic' ovals, and these are better than many I have seen on JA :) so I don't think it is a worry.

Neither seem to have a strong 'bow-tie' either - yes, contrast/obstruction gives some dark facets across the centre, but they are broken up and mixed with brightness, which will help with scintillation and should make the brighter facets look brighter :)

Both also appear to be pretty much eye-clean - SI clarity, yes, but nothing is screaming out 'no!!!' to me, and I'm a clarity-freak who gets twitchy below VS1... lol

All IMHO, of course :)

I don't think you can go too far wrong with either of these!

Just to throw some others into the mix, I don't know the budget so have ignored that aspect completely :P but these appealed to me in term of performance during a quick skim through JA :)

Oh that is great, I can’t thank you enough for all of your help with this! I really really appreciate your expertise, as I am a total novice.
