I LOVE emerald cut diamonds and I would love to see pictures of yours!
I''m thinking of having mine set with trap sides but would love to get ideas of what types of settings everyone else has.
Thanks!

I just got engaged yesterday! I bought my fiance'' a three-stone emerald-cut diamond ring in a platinum setting. I bought the center stone from dirtcheapdiamonds.com (Thanks Joshua!). It has a 1.01 ct. vs1, H-color center stone and two 1/3 ct. emerald-cut side stones (vs1, G). It is absolutely gorgeous and both of us are so happy with it. I will post pics as soon as I can get a digital camera. I would like to say how great the people on this website are in helping and a cheap advertisement for dirtcheapdiamonds, they were very helpful!

Congrats bojanglesman!

Post pics when you get a chance!!! Ec''s are my favorite!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine has an emerald cut with traps...it is AMAZING. Traps are step cut like and emerald (as I am sure you know) and do not fight or compete with the stone. I think they are so fresh looking yet very timeless and classic. What is the stone like in terms of ratio? Is it very elongated? I think the traps looks best if the stone is not too skinny looking, but that is my taste only...obviously you see a few stones and try it out...

I haven''t actually seen the diamond yet (my fiance'' doesn''t want to give it to me until it''s set). All he would tell me is that I''ll love it. I have a feeling he went overboard though because I heard him talking to his father on the phone about how his sister-in-law would be so jealous (she can be very ''diamond snobby'' and owns a 2.54ct solitaire emerald which she brags about ALL of the time). To explain her ''diamond snobbery I have a pair of diamond earrings (2ctw) that my parents gave me for graduation and when she first saw me wear them she grilled me on their specs, color, clarity etc. Once done with her interrogation she sat back and said ''oh, well my pair are 3ctw, H color, etc. and they cost a fortune because my Michael would do anything for me, I can''t see Matt doing anything like that for you since he''s such a frat boy''. I was shocked as this was one of my first introductions to her and long before I was even engaged! My fiance'' can''t stand her as he calls her the gold digging sl*t behind her back. We don''t know what his brother sees in her as he such a sweetie but totally whipped!

Anyway, back to settings for my ring. My old boss loves anyting sparklie and she loves to play with sims (she''s got her own real diamonds but she loves ''fun rings''). She said she''s getting a emerald cut fun ring with trap sides and will show me what it looks like to see if I like it too.

Here is my emerald cut stone. It is in a platinum setting - set east-west in prongs. It is flanked by my wedding bands (I was married in two countries so I had to have two rings!) in yellow gold set with square diamonds.

I LOVE emeralds!

Wow, I love the east west setting! That''s gorgeous!!!!

I LOVE them too. I had an rb for my first, and have since upgraded twice, both with ec''s. My husband thinks they are elegant and I love them. Traps are a great and classic choice. Your sister in law sounds BEYOND hideous...there is truly no solution to people like that who constantly want to better you on everything. You know the type, if you have a headache they have a brain tumor...(not to joke about cancer but just showing the escalation with this type of person). UGHHHH. Just smile and keep going, and when she brags, just say, "Wow...don''t we have two great guys? We are so blessed..." Or you can have selective deafness and float gently from the room to go "do something" when she opens her mouth. People like that frankly turn off anyone normal, so I am sure you have company in your views...and eventually people do not respond to people like that, which frustrates them and makes them tend to escalate even more...more''s the pity...PS...could

someone give me more info about the Tiffany differentiation? My two ec''s were from there, and I see a shape difference in the two...though they are clearly rectangular, not square...[/URL]

diamondfan - I''m so in agreement with you on that (regarding my evil SIL). It''s sad but I''ve seen her do that to so many people with little regards to their feelings. Most of the time it''s easy to ignore her (I''ve gotten used to it) but sometimes I just would love to render her speechless... Although I''ll bet that even if I had the worlds most perfect diamond she''d find something to criticize about it! She''s just that type of person.

I used to love RBs but as of late have fallen head over heels with the emerald cut. It is so classy and elegant. My old boss loves everything sparklie, diamonds, gems whether they''re real or sims. She uses the sims to travel with as she does a lot of traveling for business. I know she''s working with someone right now on a sim emerald and trap ring. I can''t wait to see it as it sounds lovely. She said if she loves it she''ll eventually have it remade using real diamonds but she doesn''t like spending the money unless she knows she''s going to love it!

Sparkle, that is smart of your boss to do! Also, I know lots of people with amazing jewels who had copies made in sim and take them on trips, so there is not a risk of theft of the real stuff. You are right about your sil, you could have the Hope diamond and she would sneer at it. My sister (not in law, real) does similar things. If I get something and she know she cannot get something like it, (but she wants to) she makes fun of it or acts like "who would want THAT?". Then a year or two later she is sporting it, and acts like she never said she did not want it in the first place...like who would hallucinate that conversation every time you have it?! There are all types of people in the world...and I guess it is our cross to bear to have these types in our midst...keep smiling and know under it all she is probably an exceptionally unhappy, insecure and competitve woman. Pity her, since that is an awful way to go through life...even if it does make you crazy, you are lucky to not be in that head of hers!!!

diamondfan you are so right about that. It''s so much easier to pity her than to get angry. She was in rare form last night. My fiance'' and I went out to dinner with them and of course the ENTIRE time she talked about her new car (a lexus convertible) and her new bracelet...even my BIL was ready to hang himself or strangle her! She of course is gloating over the fact that I haven''t received my ring yet. Keeps saying how she is sure Matt ''did his best in picking it out'' although she said it in such a way that you know she thinks it''s going to be crap. ARGH! I was so ready to scream!

My boss is hilarious. I''m sorry I''m not working for her anymore because she was a lot of fun. She had a copy made of her ering using Asha (I think that''s what it was called). She hated traveling with her real ring and said this way, if she lost it, it wouldn''t be such a big deal. I think her sister lost her diamond while traveling and put the fear into her!

Ewww...sorry you have to spend time with her, I guess it is unavoidable. I hope your ring makes her eat her words though! Make sure you post pictures here when you get it.

This was one of my favorite EC''s. It used to be up on Signed Pieces from T&Co, but it was taken down maybe 2 months ago:

Sparkle, I have found the best way to deal with this type of person is avoidance. Unfortunately, with family a member that is not your side of the family, you cannot usually do this unless your mate agrees and wants to avoid them too. Since women often tend to avoid conflict and want things to be nice, we end up spending time and then suffering. What I do now (with sis and my m.i. l. who is batty) is try to go to another place mentally...I look like I am there but I do NOT get sucked in. Whatever is said, I just say something banal or non encouraging and then change the subject...so if she brags, say, "That''s great. Did anyone see that great show last night?" If you do this enough, she might realize you are not being reeled in on her line and thus, you are not giving her a reaction that she wants. Bottom line, as my mother says, NEVER get defensive if you can avoid it...people like her LOVE to have you falling all over yourself to explain, defend or justify something. When my mother in law starts in I say, Really! How interesting. Oh, I just remembered I have to go return an important call...lovely chatting, but please excuse me". If you remain a lady and do not let it get to you (easier said than done I KNOW) you will feel better for it...after all, she loves to rile people and the best revenge is not to give her the satisfaction. If all else fails, plead a migraine when you are about to leave (or get one suddenly at the table...I really do get them and they are great for getting out of stuff) OR drink heavily!
