Hi Everyone. I’m still trying to search for the perfect oval from James Allen. I’m getting overwhelmed and would love to get some help. If you can recommend me some ovals from JA, that would be wonderful! I loved this one that DejaWiz recommended but it out of my budget.

I’m looking for an oval between .70-.80 ct, G or higher , VS2 or higher and no fluorescence.

Thanks so much for your help!

Full disclosure, I have no idea what I’m doing re: ovals, but I see this as a fun challenge. I’m happy to let the real experts weigh in and critique my suggestions (I want to learn!). Here are some that minimize mushiness and have nice facets to my eyes:

1: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-13646811

2: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-14509319 (this has faint fluorescence)

3: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-13797557

4: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-14052138 This is a cool shape.

I did a quick look...here's what I came up with. What you need to see as the stone turns is more "nice" facets lighting up down
towards the pointed ends. The more distinct, nice facets the better the light return.

I dont think the .8 D/VS1 I included is as good as some of the others but I left it in.

Thanks for the tip! Can you give me a link to a nice example? I’m so new to this. I’m not sure what I’m looking at.

With fancy cut diamonds like ovals you want to maximize the nice, well-defined facets and minimize the amount of "mushy"
area (areas that are gray and arent returning light well).

Here is the stone you posted above. In general, I would give it an 80/100. Its not bad. You probably can do better.
The green areas so bright facets that are well-defined (outlined). The red area shows mushy facets that are not well
defined. You will not get good light return (back to the eyes) from these areas. Most ovals have some mushy area but
you want to minimize it as much as possible.

What to look for...when the stone rotates...look for more nice facets to light
up pointing down towards the longer ends of the stone.

These are one of my favorite ovals (Astor Ideal). They tend to be short and fat with a lower ratio (1.2ish). Its easier to get better light
return out of a lower ratio stone than it is out of a higher ratio stone.

For the more "typically cut" oval here is one that lights up well as the stone turns (ignore color/clarity). You can see inside the
inner, smaller circle facets are well-defined and are returning light.

Distinctive Gems makes a 10 main oval that some people like.

Ah…I see. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all of this to me! It’s very helpful! I

I tried hard looking but no luck or I’m just not getting it! Do you think you can recommend me some options in the .80 range with no fluorescence? I’d really appreciate it!

I did recommend a few back on post #3. There should have been 6 stones pop up. I'll just list them out
individually here...I would not shy away from Faint fluorescence or I should ask why are you shying away
from Faint? The problem with limiting yourself is that nice ovals are hard to find and the more limits
you put on yourself the harder/more impossible it will be to find a nice one. Faint fluor should have
no negative impact on the stone.

These are in the order I like them...first ones are no Fluor
(this one has a little more mushy area facing straight up)

These have Faint Fluor

This is a really nice one at BlueNile. Does have faint fluor though

Thanks so much for posting them again. For some reason, when I clicked the link yesterday it gave me so many diamonds, I got confused ‍ Those are some really nice options. Thanks again!

What are your thoughts on these two? I prefer the 1.4-1.45 ratio. I also love the D VS1 one! I’m glad you left in in.

Regarding fluorescence, I just get so scared because I hear about the milky/haziness that it causes. Since it’s my first time buying a diamond sight unseen, it just scares me.
