I am about to have a custom ring made and I cannot for the life of me decide which stones to set. I have soooooo many styles pinned on Pinterest, and I have been slowly collecting side stones (and big stones, too, of course!). Below are some different collages using just the sapphire, just the emerald, and some two-stone combinations for a bypass beauty. Here's my inventory for consideration. Please take a look at the photos and lmk what you think looks best. Thank you soooo much! This indecision is legit debilitating. I might never have the ring made without help!:

Main stones:
1. Sapphire - untreated (!!) cornflower blue from Sri Lanka
2. Emerald - old stock Colombian
3. Chrysoberyl - yellow from Sri Lanka

Side stones:
1. Four (4) neon red/pink spinel, 2.5mm, from Yvonne
2. Two (2) neon green tsavorite, 3mm, from Yvonne
3. Two (2) white diamonds, excellent color and clarity, 3mm
4. Twenty (20) melee diamonds (not pictured), 1.3
5. Four (4) tapered diamond baguettes (not pictures), about 4mm

Also, I'd gladly take any suggestions on setting styles and gold color :-) Thank you!

I love your emerald, woweezowee! Dazzling color! Were you thinking about yellow gold? I haven’t set the one I got from you yet, but I am leaning toward yellow gold. I am also really indecisive about settings. :wavey: The spinel look pleasingly equal in color intensity to the emerald. You might find a design that could use all 4, with 2 on each side. Have fun!

I know! it's so difficult when you have a beautiful gem and you want to do it justice. I have been waffling about white vs. yellow, but am strongly leaning toward yellow with perhaps with a white gold bezel (or prongs) for a mixed metal look.

Do you have any ideas of what you want for a setting??

Looks like a beautiful decision to have to make! When I make these decisions for myself, I look at the jewelry I already have, and figure out if there is something missing. For example if I have just small pieces, maybe I want a larger statement piece. If all white metals then maybe something in yellow gold. If most of your pieces are warm color gems set, then set a stone that is a cooler color. Ps I think your emerald looks fabulous!

What a tough decision! Good problem to have though ;-) I personally love that blue sapphire with the spinels! I'm a big fan of strong color contrasts. That emerald is killer too!

I understand your dilemma. Blue is my favorite color so out of the main stones I would set the blue sapphire first. The cut on the blue sapphire is different so I would pair it with the round diamonds. Unless you could get some unusually shaped side stones in diamonds and make the whole ring unique. That could be a really fun project. ;)2

I vote for the emerald. I love that green! :mrgreen2:

I'd do a bi-pass (or a tri-pass??) what can I say, I'm greedy..:lol::lol:

Seriously, a bipass with the blue and green would be very nice. You'd be able to do white metal for the body, and maybe gold basket and prongs for the emerald.

I always gravitate toward diamond as a side stone, they go with anything. But I love the sapphire and emerald together.

We will all enjoy your project.

Ha! Well, with the varied responses at least I now know that I'm not completely cuckoo. I'm still waffling, but the poll has been immensely helpful, as have all your comments. I'm leaning toward either the emerald with diamonds or the sapphire/chrysoberyl bypass, as that combo is blingtastic, and both stones are almost exactly the same size and are from the same country :-)

This is the ring that inspired me to perhaps due a bypass but both my stone are brighter, and I'm wondering if they compete with each other more than complement....Inspiration ring sapphire and emerald bypass.jpg

I thought I would love to enjoy colored stones on their own, but I keep being pulled toward accent diamonds of some kind. That’s a pretty design, with a little sparkle added. :-)
