Hello All,

Ok I narrow it down to a few pairs I can get but can't decide. This is for a small second hole (3-3.5mm). I usually wear 5mm malis in my main ear that look pretty big on my ear lobe.

Poll didnt work

1) Top colour Tsavorite Garnet. No yellow overtone, but not super dark just pure green. 3.25mm
2) Not top colour Demantoid Garnets has a some yellow undertone but lots of dispersion. Horsetail and from Russia. 3.20mm In picture.

oooooh I assume that photo is of the demantoids? Something about them just screams at me! Probably their amazing color..

I would totally go with the demantoids.

I''m leaning that way now too. I think they''ll have more presence in that small size. Yum

I wish I could get both icekid!! I am leaning towards the demantoid too, I can always get a bigger main ear hole of the pure Tsavorite (a shade of green I love) in the future. I think demantoid supply is more rare so harder and harder to get for future, so will tasvorite but maybe a little easier for it? Thanks both of u.

Examples of other stones in my other thread and Mali earshot

Without a doubt the demantoids if you can swing it:
1. The bright and intense colour will stand out
2. Major dispersion
3. The yellow undertone will match your Malis.

OH MY GOSH!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE

the demantoids!

Demantoids!!! Love them :)

Add another vote for the demantoids. Gorgeous!

Here is more pictures in different lighting of the 2 demantoid pairs I am picking out of. I will get tsavorite too...but saving it for the a bigger 5mm pair or something bigger you can see the colour more of a focus.

I like the buttom pair in the lightings more but the top pair is bigger so not sure which I will get but they are very close in everything including price.

The lower pair does look better than the top pair.

Well Chrono, I asked about what I see in the top right stone and this is the response I got.

"What I think you might be seeing is the "horsetail" inclusion, which is a bit more localized in that stone compared to the others. It''s not something which is visible to the unaided eye without the magnification of the pic."

-So do you think I should get the bigger ones? they are small like a .1mm differce or .04ct.

As for setting them in gold or white? Any suggestions? I am torn between yellow gold (matches the gold in my main ear malis are in yellow gold) or between white gold cause I wanna bring the green out in them more.

The size and carat weight difference seems miniscule. What about the price? How about ordering both, comparing them in person, then chosing one pair while returning the second pair? Nothing beats seeing the real thing in person to make that decision.

Icce- I don''t think the size difference will be very visible on the ear, so I would not let that guide you.

On gold color, I''d do white personally. But with the mali in yellow, hmm. Earring settings usually are not very visible- is that true of your mali set?

IceKid: If its like my Malis the gold isnt that noticeable. I am thinking White gold also.

The Dealer is a really great guy...one of are PS venders and he posts and reads this four,.This is what the dealer says about Them.

"There is a slightly noticeable size difference - more obvious in person than in the pics.

What I note is slightly more scintillation and dispersion, especially with a distant point source of light, in the larger stones. This is not a surprise since the scintillation from larger virtual facets is going to be more visible, and the light paths being slightly longer within the larger stones will produce a bit more dispersion.

There are no eye visible inclusions in any of the stones, and color saturation is about the same in all."

(hope he doesnt mind me posting this email part)

-My thought is once they are set the size won't be noticable cause that is how diamonds on rings seem to be. The stats are:
Round

0.31 ct.

Medium, Slightly Yellowish Green

Russian Urals

3.17x3.18x1.99mm; 3.16x3.17x2.10mm

VS

Round

0.34 ct.

Medium Slightly Yellowish Green

Russian Urals

3.28x3.30x2.16mm; 3.34x3.37x2.14mm

None Known

They are about 20dollars difference only. Chrono I would love to do that but since he is setting them for me(and customs at the border), it is really better if I just pick now. I believe him when he says the difference I see in them (one has that included portion) can only be seen cause they are magnified alot and he says the first pair (larger pair in pic) actually has more scintillation and dispersion but there is somthing about the pictures that is pulling me to the buttom smaller set (silly I know).

Pictures cannot accurately everything the eye sees in a 2D format; I''d trust the vendor if he says the 1st pair is the better and brighter one. You''d want plenty of scintallation for earrings.
