I heard back and had a really nice conversation with Julia today and I've decided to work with her for my pink sapphire.

So now the dilemma, what setting? She has recommended the Peony or Lily setting. I have also since talking to her discovered the Daisy setting, I just can't decide but I'm going with white gold no matter what.

Pictures:

First is the sapphire
Second is Lily
Third is Peony
Fourth is Daisy

Daisy! I love it's unique look, but are you ok with your finger being exposed to the culet underneath. My finger swell and white these setting give you more room, you need to be sure it is enough that the culet is not going to pike your finger. Your sapphire will less pointy that this moissanite. I personally prefer a complete shank under the culet.

Ah, good call Rockysalamander, didn't consider that. Definitely something to think about.

Daisy, Daisy, Daisy!!
Ok, so I may have a slight obsession with the Daisy setting. I think your sapphire would look so gorgeous in it.

Second choice is Peony (but I still think Daisy is the way to go). :P2

I totally wouldn't have come up with that but that is a great idea, I will have to ask, that would solve that whole cutlet issue.

I think your stone is so well-cut and pretty that the more ornate stones would be gilding the lily, so I picked the Lily (with no gilding).

My immediate thought was daisy!

Daisy 100%!

I think it depends what look you're going for. Do you want more of a solitaire look (and are okay with the size of the stone)? If so, I'd choose Lily. Otherwise, if you want to add more size and detail then I'd go with Daisy.

ETA: With respect to the whole culet-touching-the-finger-issue - I have several rings like this and I've never had a problem, but they all have some type of gallery detail. I'd be careful about adding stuff in certain places because that'll make the ring sit up higher as opposed to keeping the nice low-profile and "covering" the culet area. Just stuff to talk with Julia about what she can and can't do.

Like SparkliesLuver, my 5 ct Spess is set with without a bridge underneath, and never had an issue with the culet poking my finger. It has no fancy gallery either. You can go wrong with any of these settings!handprofile7B.JPG

Thanks for your input, thoughts and votes!

I am going with the daisy!

How do you guys feel about unplated white gold vs the rhodium? I am not really a shiny girl but Julia thinks the rhodium plating would look better with the sapphire being pink.

What to do?

I vote plated. It would be white and bright! A perfect way to show off your new pink sapphire. :D

For your sapphire I believe the whiter the better- so rhodium plated is a good choice. It is going to give you the contrast you want to showcase the color of your sapphire.

Thank you Sparklies and Chrono, that really helps ease my mind about the cutlet being a problem. I believe she is going to make the setting a bit higher (will confirm Monday) so my wedding band can be worn with it without the diamonds rubbing against it. So there will be a bit more room making the cutlet a non-issue.

Elle and Lisa thanks for weighing in on the plating, I am so excited about this ring but want to make sure I make the right decisions so I ask the experts =)2

I have a ring on order from Julia too. Mine is a blue-purple sapphire and I'm getting the lily design with bezel set diamond sidestones in the band. I love rose gold so I went with that for a vintage look. Also it will match my wedding bands better.

Your ring sounds really lovely, StephanieLynn! Julia is so easy to work with and I have really appreciated her advice about the designs. I know you're going to love it!

That sounds amazing, can't wait to see your ring especially with the rose gold and the blue purple sapphire combo. Love rose gold, and yes Julia is a total peach, wish I could afford another stone just to do another project with her!

My ring is ready and it's up on JuliaB's Instagram page as a short video. It came out really pretty! I'm sorry, I don't know how to copy the link here to show you. I got the stone from Yvonne Raley when she was having a sale. I was looking for one that was more blue but when I got it, the color was so yummy that I kept it anyway. I am kind of late to the jewelry thing and I have been making up for lost time! The colors are so addicting, it's like wanting the whole box of Crayolas. :rolleyes2:

I saw that one yesterday. It's so gorgeous!
I'm absolutely in love with the color. I can't wait until you post pics.

Thank you, Elle!

Thank you, Bluegemz! I have tried to absorb as much as I could of the worlds of wisdom and experience here. I just fell in love with that Portuguese cut and the sparkle!
