So, while visiting my parents and searching for a MOB dress, I came across "my" wedding gown. Oh yes. Naturally I wanted to try to sample on, which is a story in and of itself, but the SA suggested trying it with a crinoline slip. (I think it was crinoline, anyway). Now I''m conflicted!! I thought I liked the un-poofy look of the skirt, and how light weight it was... But the slip allowed for more of the skirt to show, and it didn''t add much weight. So, question is, which do you like more??

Without slip:

With a slip...

And because I might as well, though it''s unrelated.... My mom''s dress!! (Will not be in this green-looking "bronze" color, though)

I think I like the fuller skirt better! It''s hard to tell without the sash on it, but it makes your waist look super small by comparison. Sooo, did that one have the corset in it?

Love your mom''s dress too. Really cute!

The extra fullness looks fantastic! Love it.
Mom looks terrific in that dress as well ... What color will it be?

im with the fuller skirt too. both look great(!!) but i think the fuller skirt looks a bit more tailored.
btw, your mom has an awesome figure! she looks great in that dress!

I think the slip makes the back of the dress look better, so another yes vote for a slip. You look great in it either way!

Your mom looks great, too! I love it when the MOB goes with something that actually flatters their shape.

Silly question, but where does one purchase slips??? Bridal stores? I''ve never seen any for sale. Is it safe to get them offline? I imagine most are one-size-fits-all sort of deals. Or do you think crinoline could be added to the inside of the dress by my seamstress?? She''ll be profiting big-time off of me, let me tell ya

Thanks for the compliments on my mom''s dress! It took some convincing for her to go with that style of a more-matronly dress, but I think she''s happy with it. I hope so, at least! Spark: The dress will be "coffee" which is actually a rich taupe-like color, more champagne or dark, dark ivory. Not too close to wedding white/ivory, though!!

Pilsn,

You can buy your slip anywhere. I actually have a minimal fullness A line I don't need. I wish I can just sell you mine for like $15. Way cheaper than a bridal store. Try theknot.com and look for A-line crinolines for sale. I'd think you'd have pretty good luck finding something that's inexpensive.

Also, I never found out the resolution with your dress. What happened?

I like the fuller skirt on your dress as well! Very pretty either way though!

Also, what is the brand of your mom''s dress? I think that would be perfect for my mom...

Did I miss the resolution to your last dress thread? Are you happy with the dress now?

I actually really like the slip. I agree that it makes your waist look tiny! And your mom''s dress is gorgeous, too!

Another vote for a slip!!! The dress looks great in that way.

Ditto, any updates?

Annnnd I vote for no slip..I actually like the way the dress kind of folds/pleats in the front w/ a less full skirt. Slips are heavy and hot..blegh. But that''s just my opinion!

I vote no slip. I tend to not like "poofiness" though.

Ever since you found your dress, I have loved the way the skirt draped, which I now know is sans-slip.

But I love the way it looks with the slip!!!!!! It really does give you such a tiny waist, and I love the way you can see the lace detailing better.

Up to you though, it''s GORGEOUS either way.

...(I am assuming that if your dress is not being replaced, it is being tailored to your satisfaction.)

Oh, thank god! I remember there being a bride afraid she had a "nip slip" in some of her photos...reading the subject line, I was terrified that this was a poll asking us to judge from the picture if it was really a nip slip or not!

Now that I've calmed down =) I like it without the crinoline.

Your mom''s dress is beautiful and oh-so-elegant! As for the slip, have you tried walking in the dress with and without? Sometimes a slip of some sort makes it easier to walk, especially with a longer skirt.

slip. I like the look of the back of the dress when it is all full with the slip... beautiful!

No slip! I think it looks more natural and romantic feeling. With the slip it looks stiff and you loose all the wonderful flow of the skirt.

Jena: The dress is a Montage by Mon Cheri... It doesn''t appear to be on their website, though. I can track down the style number from my mom, if you''d like.

Re: Dress stuff. Its resolved. That''s allll I''m going to say.

As for the dress in the "with a slip" photo... It isn''t EXACTLY my dress. Its by Allure, and still being manufactured. I don''t quite understand it, and I don''t know if this is true, but per the SA where I tired on the Allure gown, private labels often design replicas of designer dresses. So according to her explanation, my dress is a replica of an Allure gown. True? I don''t know. I still don''t understand any of this stuff. It has the same fabric, same overall design... But Allure bodices are patented. Go figure. I still may hunt down an Allure sample in a store and try to sell the dress I have on Ebay because, as you can see, the Allure sample fit pretty gosh darn well. All I can do is chalk up the difference in fit of the "original sample" and the gown I own to variances in manufacturing. But to other ladies with "private label" gowns-- I''m interested to hear-- is your dress a copy of a designer gown?

Ah well. No negative comments in relation to the "dress situation" stuff, please... As I said, it is resolved.

Hmm..I've never heard of this. I have a Christina Wu gown and I've never seen a designer gown it was copied from...and I've looked at a lot of designer gowns, lol. I've seen similar styles because it's a common dress design, but never that exact design. And it had hang tags, labels, and a handkerchief type thing with the Christina Wu label that came with it.

ETA: I hope I am answering your question..lol. I tried rereading the post to make sure I did and I am not sure I did..sorry!

Sarah: I don''t think Christina Wu is a private label, but that''s okay

Generally private labels are not associated with a larger manufacturer, are not advertised, are not in catalogues, and allow for a bridal salon to remove tags and replace with their own .

Rockzilla: Bwahahahaha... You know what''s funny? When I read the nip-slip post, I thought it was an ACTUAL slip... as in fabric... And everyone understood what it was except for me.

It wasn''t until a few people posted that I realized she was talking about the breast-area

I''ve never claimed to be a bright one

Everyone Else: Oh no!! I prefered when responses all said the same thing!!

, and I''m only half-joking. :sigh: I wish I could just show the photos to FI and make him pick. Goodness... I like the softness of the no-slip, and the flowyness. But I do like the back of the dress with-slip. And I think the slip "shrinks" my upper-half. Dancing no-slip would be easier, though. Perhaps I can wear a slip for the ceremony and remove it for the reception?

lliang: Hmm... Might you be a member of one of the "other" bridal sites? If so, I''ll play detective and hunt you down! Thanks for the tip, though. I''d like to avoid shelling out more than $50, and have noooo clue how much these cost.

PPM that makes a lot more sense! Wasn''t sure what you meant by private label

Pilsn.. If you can easily get the style number that would be great, but please don''t go out of your way to get it.

I think the idea of you wearing the slip for the ceremony and then not wearing it at the reception is a great one, it would be more comfortable for dancing! :)

slip!

I like it with a slip. Very pretty. I also like it without the sash. Just wondering . . . hypothetically, of course, what the price difference might be between an Allure gown and a knockoff gown . . .

I'm not usually a big fan of slips, but I think your dress flows better with a slip on. I'm also glad you got the dress issue resolved!

Slip. By the way, your mom is hot!

Your dress looks beautiful on you

Better with the slip. I agree with the others- it really accentuates your tiny waist and is more balanced. Will you still have the sash?
