Possible prongs issue in diamond studs

Dear PSrs! I hope everyone is doing well in this Christmas season! :)
I’ve reset my halo diamond studs in the solitaire studs with jackets. The main stones are 1.11 carat each K VVS1 3X set in 18K YG with partial rhodium plating. I didn’t like my previous halo studs because they were too large for everyday wear (also side stones were 5 pointers which I didn’t like). So yesterday I received my new studs after 2 month of waiting. Honestly I’m not sure that I will ever wear the jackets because they are huge but I do like the main stones setting. After examination of the new studs I’ve noticed that the prongs cover only small part of the diamonds. So I started to worry that this setting is not very durable and possibly the stones could fall off. How do you think is it possible? Should I worry? I’ve already told my husband if that need to be redone and he is apparently not happy to start over again:roll: I would very much appreciate any suggestions or advice. IMG_3459.jpeg

Did you ask the jeweler who set them about the prongs? Did he make seats inside the prongs for the diamonds to rest in? Hard to tell from the pictures how much prong actually sits on the diamond. Do the diamonds appear loose to you or do they seem secure? You can sometimes shake a setting by your ear to see if you hear any rattling of the diamond against the setting. You should, of course, hear none.

Agreed

Agree with what’s been said. Hard to tell from pics. If the stones aren’t shifting - most likely it’s secure but (as in all prongs) should be checked periodically. Anything can happen to any type prong.

If I were to hazard a guess from your last picture-
the prongs material where the seats are cut - the stock size setting (if indeed that’s what it is) looks to be at the borderline too large category for your diameter of diamond.
Conversely - some people do want and go for a minimal prong look.

MissGotRocks, thank you for your answer! I could not ask the jewellers because they are in another city and I sent my studs to them through my husband’s friend. Also I don’t speak local language yet (I’m a foreigner living in Myanmar and not many people speak English here) that make the whole situation more complicated. I louped the setting and saw the seats but there was at least one shallow seat
in the prong in each earring. I also tried to shake and gently twist the diamonds but they seem secure.
I’ve tried to take photos of all prongs through the loupe. IMG_3661.jpegIMG_3663.jpegIMG_3664.jpegIMG_3665.jpegIMG_3666.jpegIMG_3668.jpegIMG_3669.jpegIMG_3670.jpeg

Rfisher, thank you for the answer! Yes, the stones aren’t shifting. I hope that it would be ok because studs do not take as much wear as rings or bracelets..

If they are in fact seated, I would feel much better about the settings. Just keep an eye on them. You could always take them to a jeweler near you for inspection. Enjoy your lovely earrings!!

Thank you very much! Yes, I’ll periodically check them for peace of mind. Hope the setting is more secure than I thought from the first impression.

I would imagine that they would come loose in the mountings before there was any real danger of losing a diamond. And the prongs are very very think so it seems very unlikely one will shear off. It also doesn’t look like the diamond could come out even if one prong came loose. So I might just check the diamond each time I put them on. Just gently check if they rotate or rattle. If not they are probably secure enough!

Dreamer_D, thanks so much for the reassurance! I’m feeling much better about that setting now, so will just regularly check the diamond stability.
