I am looking for cake ideas. Let''s see yours. Also, any alternatives to cakes too.

these are a couple pix i stole from various websites/knot bios...

this is one of my favs i posted on another thread:

this one's kinda unique-looking...

both from neldamsbakery.com

That TLC show (I think it was called For Better or Worse) had some unique cake ideas. Here''s 2 ideas that I remember:

cupcakes instead of a cake

and another was, instead of having 1 large cake, they had a small cake on each table and it was also the centerpiece. Each cake had it''s own theme pertaining to special pictures, events, or memories of the bride and groom.

buena girl- I have heard of both of those ideas for cakes.. (from theknot.com though, not from for better or for worse, that show irritates me because they always pick really stupid dresses and decor)

they are actualy both in my knot bio but I''ll post them here.

Cupcake cake

I think this particular one is really cute, because on the big hearts the bride and grooms names go on them, but on each cupcake you put the guest''s name!!

And this is my current favorite REAL cake

but in PINK of course..

Here are a few more

The rest of them in my bio are just sort of STANDARD.. white ones with flowers. like this:

Here is ours... Each layer was a different flavor. The top was just for us later that night. The flowers came from the church - plus cflutist''s bouquet that she carried down the aisle is on the left of the picture.

It sure was fun going around and doing all the cake tasting....YUMMY!

Websailor doesn't have the story quite right.

The flowers on the cake were delivered by the florist to the bakery (Katrina Rozelle of Alamo, CA) who placed them on the cake. The two bouquets in the pictures were the bridesmaid's bouquets.

The top layer was Kahlua Mousse (ate for breakfast the next morning)
The next layer was Lemon Chiffon
The next layer was Cafe au Lait
The bottom layer was Kahlua Mousse

I was originally going to go with this idea. A family member of mine did that and it was really beautiful. But I also wanted to have little desserts in addition to cake, so I was trying to figure out how to do all of it without breaking the bank.

So what we ended up having was a very small wedding cake with buttercream frosting, some doves in the design, and some fresh flowers and greenery. Then we had extra sheetcake in the back of the same flavors (far less $ this way). Our 2 flavors were a basic pound cake with passion fruit filling, and pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese filling. Delicious!!!

Then our centerpieces were plates with the little desserts...Mini cheesecakes, chocolate tarts, and phyllo dough with apples and currants. We had some flower petals scattered around too. The cake and desserts were done by one lady...she was really amazing and so supportive. I gave her the plates ahead of time and she and the florist (also an amazing lady) arranged everything. It saved money on figuring out some other idea for centerpieces too.

I am so hoping that the pics don''t show up huge here. Trying to follow instructions to make this work...fingers crossed!

This one looks a little "off"...like the vertical lines aren''t straight...but I love the basic design

BUT, MY DEARS...TO ME...THIS IS *THE* *THE* *THE* cake. I loved it the minute I saw it in like the 2001 wedding issue of martha. it''s her assistant darcy''s cake. I regret not doing a cake like this. I just freakin love it.

MellissaSue-
Have you decided on a cake yet? I love the one that you posted which would be a centerpiece for individul tables.

IslandDreams-
Here''s a very unique cake idea I saw. It looks like tie-dye.

moremoremore-
I love the cakes in Martha Stewart Wedding magazines! My favorite was a cake where they took fondant and lace and pressed it through a pasta press and put the lace pattern on the cake. I think it was white on white? I can't seem to find a picture of it. I'll post it if I can find it.

Here's a link to some other Martha cakes. These were inspired by china patterns. I really like the Wedgewood one.

Thanks everyone for posting the great pictures! Very inspiring.

Buena Girl...I think the tye-dye cake is one of the most unique looking cakes I''ve seen!

Here''s a link to some other unique cakes. Way out of my budget. But unique anyway.

Oh my, those cakes are incredible! Works of art!
I love "Wedding Dress" and "Asian Art Museum".

Here's a picture of what my cake will look like for our beach wedding in May. The seashells are made from white chocolate.
