So I go to my jeweler, a great and honest guy that I know fairly well. We look through a magazine and I pick out a white gold solitare with platinum prongs. It takes forever to get in and finally I call and he says that he has the ring in. I go and check it out and he says that they didn''t make that ring anymore so he ordered this precise white ring fro Cobb something or other. Supposedly it isn''t plated to be silver it is naturally silver gold or something. Supposedly its the greatest innovation in jewelry in 70 years. Well the exact shape of the ring isn''t the exact shape I wanted. I wanted a solitare that would allow a wedding band to fit perfectly flush. This one has a tapered rop to the ring. I left the store acting like everything was perfect and he was going to set the diamond for this Thursday. Also I don''t even know if there are any precise white wedding bands to match that have some stones set in? Here is the website of the precise white.

He has the High Shoulder Narrow Solitare in 4 prong and I think I want the Half Round Narrow Band Solitare 4 prong.

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Why don''t you email them and ask them where you can find the nearest retailer?

Clearly you need to let him know as soon as possible that you want the other one! Call him before he sets the ring.

Well I called him the next day and voiced my concern about the color brilliance of the precise white and the difference in the white gold plated with whatevery they color it with. He said that he did some checking and we can order any band I want in the precise white and he can channel in any diamonds I need. So everything worked out. I picked up the ring today and it is gorgeous! I''ll post pics after I pop the question. Thanks everyone
JON

Hmmm. My feeling is he should have called you immediately when it was clear what you wanted wasn't available and NOT made an executive decision by himself. You should not have to compromise, PERIOD!!

(ETA never mind--I didn't read carefully enough)

Thanks for the hint. This is surely the first time I hear about these things...

The usual white plating is rhodium and most jewelry shops do it anyway. It would be great to have white gold that really does not need it !
