Doing some shopping for an engagement ring and wanted to ask second opinions about the price of the deal I might be getting.

I’m shopping at Benari Jewlers and I’m looking to get a Veraggio two tone engagement ring in 14k white gold with rose gold.

This is the setting.

I’m looking to put a yellow sapphire as the center stone.

The setting is priced at 3,850 and the yellow sapphire is priced at 2,275 making the ring initial quote 6,125 before sale tax. Now Apparently there is supposed to be a “Big sale” on the 20th. The jeweler ballparked this would be marked down close to 5,000 out the door.

Does this seem like a good deal? There isn’t a big market price guide for yellow sapphires so I wanted to ask around. I included some good pictures to see what the stone looks like in a very similiar setting.

The sapphire is Heat treated.20150610_162815.jpg20150610_162826_001.jpg20150610_152521.jpg20150610_162704.jpg20150610_151801.jpg20150610_163922.jpg20150610_162658.jpg20150610_162518.jpg

Do you have any paperwork proving that the stone is truly heat only? Sometimes, vendors and labs do not differentiate between heated without added minerals and heated with added minerals (diffusion). Diffusion is very invasive as it brings the corundum almost to melting point in order to blend in the mineral that changes its colour radically. This has significant impact on pricing. A diffused stone can easily be $100/ct only. Unfortunately, the majority of yellow sapphires in the market are diffused, so if treatment is important to you, please verify. Other than that, the cut and colour of the sapphire looks great.

It looks a bit silky in some pictures but very clear in others. What do you see?
Do not accept the store appraisal or report at face value due to the strong conflict of interest.

I believe others in RT have commented on the ring design itself.

Because the price of the sapphire depends on the colouration, take a look here for price comparisons.

2.02 ct unheated cushion = $1800
2.03 ct heated radiant = $1500 (excellent colouration, BTW)
2.67 ct unheated radiant with nice but not top colouration = $2400

Most of the above also are accompanied by an AGL brief, which is a premier lab for coloured stones.

Hey so I wanted to resurrect this thread for a moment and ask if I'm doing the right thing. So the jeweler made a decent offer. 3272 for the setting and 1774 for the stone. Now here's the thing I think the stone is still too high.
I'm going to purchase this stone from the natural sapphire company and put it side by side with the stone in store to compare

I think it's worth a try to see cause it's $550 difference for what I honestly not sure if there is hardly any difference at all. He said he'd sell the ring at the the price with just the setting too so they didn't package deal me. Is this a good idea? bring my own stone and compare?

The NSC sapphire has a giant window (light leaks through so you'll see your finger underneath instead of a sparkly yellow colour) and their inventory is overpriced unless you can get a discount/sale price.

So that's bad right? Crap. Might need to cancel the order. Where would you recommend I shop for a yellow sapphire? I was unaware of the window.

Well I ordered it and I wanted to put it side by side with the one from the store. They have a no restocking fee return policy .

I would still push for an AGL cert on a yellow, as Chrono suggested, just to ensure no BE treatment.

If you happen to like the NSC sapph in person, they'll send to GIA at no extra charge, if I recall correctly.
