Though I''m still a few months away from buying the diamond, I was checking out these stones from Good Old Gold and can''t understand the jump in price. I''ve been searching for a G SI1 Ideal H&A, preferrably from WF or GOG. I would like to spend $4,000 or less, on just under a carat. Ideally, I would like to get around .9 - .95. With these two stones, the first within my budget and the second far away, how do you explain the price difference? I see the less expensive is a G SI1, the more expensive an H VS2, so I would think the higher color/lower clarity and lower color/higher clarity would be pretty close in price. So, is it mostly the .05 difference in carat weight that causes the almost $2,000 price increase? If so, I think I would prefer the slightly smaller stone for the money. Do you think you would be able to tell the difference between a .86ct and a .91ct? Just curious as to what I am missing. I used to be set on a princess, but now am leaning towards a round, so I am just beginning learning about them. Thanks everyone!

Well, there is definitely a price increase at .90 because those are desirable being just under the carat mark. In addition, it may depend on when the stones were purchased by GOG. I''d certainly call and ask them, though. On rare occasions, stones can be priced incorrectly.

I don''t think you''ll see much difference between a diamond with diameter 6.15 mm and one of diameter 6.25 mm unless you hold them next to each other.

You could probably see a difference between a diamond with diameter 6.15 and one of diameter 6.50 (typical of a well-cut one carat), though. So though the .86 and the .91 will look very similar to each other, the .91 will look more like a 1 carat than the .86 will.

If it were me choosing, I would still go with the .86.

I''d pick the 0.86ct. Both are beautiful stones. Reserve it before it''s gone if you are a considering it. It''s a good one and someone from GOG could tell you about the differences and show you a video to compare the two.

Ok, I''m still new at all this, but let me take a crack at it.

Looking at the microsope pics of those two diamonds, the inclusion on the SI1 looks (relatively) huge, and right smack in the center of the diamond. You can plainly see it in all the rest of the images, Hearts, Arrows, Aset, and it shows up as dark spots on the DiamXray. Might this be pushing the edges of "eye-clean"?

On the BrillianceScope, the Scintillation rating drops down to High for the SI1, whereas the VS2 ranks Very High in all three categories.

The SI1 ranks a 2.1 on the HCA using the numbers from the Helium report, where the VS2 pulls a 1.3, also with the Helium numbers. (Note, I''m starting a new thread with respect to this diamond''s HCA performance.) 2.0 is a fairly standard cut-off point for ruling out lesser-performing diamonds, so the SI1 will be somewhat less desirable.

All of these factors add up, on top of the .05ct difference. Combined, is that worth $2000? Possibly.

....So, all you smart people... Did I do it right?? Am I on track with my diamond analysis?
