Recently changed strategy from sourcing my diamond from the vendor I am purchasing my setting from (and their limited selection) to looking at some of the better online retailers. I really like the policies of Whiteflash and the information they provide at the sale (IS and ASET images + Sarin report) plus their ACA diamonds have a great reputation.

I am currently looking at these 2 Whiteflash ACA diamonds. One is way cheaper because it falls just under the 1.5ct cut line. Is there really that noticeable of a difference between these two spreads for $3k? I am putting it in a halo setting that will probably mask some of the difference anyway. If this will be as small a visual difference as I think I might have found my rock.

Well it would be .1 of a millimeter, so there is very little chance you would notice a difference in size with the naked eye.

I have a size 1.484 and I think it's totally worth it. I dropped to an eye-clean SI2 to stretch my budget. I mean if you're considering this because of the cheaper price, that means that you are being budget conscious which means you can spend the extra money on a lot of other things.

I doubt your significant other is going to complain about such a marginal difference and I certainly think she don't think anyone will side with her so you should be safe on that.

Aside from the size difference, I noticed a feather in the outer edges of the diamond. I thought that could compromise integrity. Can someone who knows more about this comment?

Shouldn't be a problem in a VS stone. Reserve this stone NOW or it's going to get snatched out from under you by a lurker - then tomorrow ave WF verify there is not structural integrity issue.

See no reason why you can't save a few dollars the 1.47 looks terrific.......

I'd buy the smaller 1.4ish one. The extra <tenth of a carat is not worth the price difference. You got the sweet spot. Hurry up and reserve!

Just placed on reserve and will look at it Friday (conveniently I live in Houston). Thanks for the advice, I did not know you could do that without a deposit.

Does that seem like good price to the experts?

Thank goodness you put it on reserve!!! I cannot begin to tell you how rare that stone is! You almost never see an ACA or even an ideal cut stone just under 1.5 cts like that! I know, because that was what we were originally looking for when I first came to PS (for an anniversary ring). As you can see, there is a big price jump at 1.5. You are getting a fantastic diamond at a great price just because of that tiny difference in weight! Cutters want to get stones over the 1.5 mark, so they might forgo the H&A cut to get the stone over that mark. But in this case, they cut the stone as a H&A even though it would make less profit. That is a terrific buy!!! Be sure you ask for the PS discount, too!

Incidentally, I would also buy the setting from WF if you can. That way they are covering the diamond in the event something happened while setting it. What setting are you looking at?

A Michael M designer setting style R539 with custom pave diamond detailing underneath the head. I attended a trunk show for the jeweler I've been dealing with and have 15% off and what I would consider a very good price on the setting. Even if Whiteflash can order Michael M stuff, it might be hard to beat the deal.

Is that the 1.484 F SI2 from Brian Gavin? If it is I was totally eyeing that stone! You lucky person you ;) I got the 1.483 J SI1 and I love the value for getting it just under 1.5 ct but I wish it were closer to an H, G, or F, as I would have gladly paid the extra.

Haha yes the 1.484 was from gavin. I bought before it even hit the website. I asked at the right time before they were uploading!

I was just jumping in to say this! What a great find and GREAT value!!

ETA: And, if you round to one decimal place, its 1.5ct 8)

My boyfriend purchased a 1.498 from Whiteflash for my e-ring. Does that mean he also avoided the price jump? I hope so but wasn't sure if they priced it as a 1.5 because it's so close.

I am sure it would have been less than a 1.5 with the same specs. Great buy for you, too!!! And certainly, I would call all of these stones 1.5 cts if asked the size!

Me too!

In fact, it would be much more obnoxious to respond to the question "How big is your ring?" by saying, "It is 1.498ct" :rodent:
