Given everything going on w/ tariffs, will that impact the price of natural diamonds to skyrocketed prices? I wanted to invest in some pieces this year :(

More conflict diamonds will probably become available once Customs loses funding and the CDTA is overturned. :roll2: I say this with snark, but it wouldn't be a surprise.

Global markets - especially Asian ones- tumbled Monday morning because of the tariffs. It's not pretty. People are going to have less disposable income for diamond purchases, which will impact importers, dealers, and jewelers. I have no clue how this will impact imported diamonds since they aren't coming from Canada & Mexico, but there might be some tariffs in the future targeting other countries. So will the players lower prices due to fewer buyers, or ...???

Rapaport says, "... the relationship between stock values and diamond prices appears to be the opposite of what one might expect. The RapNet Diamond Index (RAPI™) for 1-carat polished diamonds fell 53% between January 1, 2013, and November 1, 2024. The S&P 500 index soared 302% during the same period." So maybe a tumble means diamonds will cost more.

Ah. That man ( Rap) is so full of …..
That quote manipulates facts like someone else I can think of.
He’s using 2013-2024 for his 53% decline number. But the truth is that the decline took place from 2020-2024 and was based on the surge in Lab Diamond purchases instead of mined diamonds. Has ZERO to do with the Stock Market.
It’s possible diamond prices stay fairly stable as they have. Soft market but still a “hard bottom”.
To the OP - as always. If you see something that pleases you and you can afford it, enjoy!!!
I have always rejected the term “investment” when it comes to consumers buying diamonds if the term is used to describe financial investment

@Rockdiamond Oh crap! Well, shows what I know. :roll2: Sorry guys.
I still say "who knows" with regards to tariffs and how people in the diamond industry will be impacted and react. Sucks.
