For the most part, I think Pricescope is a nice-looking site but those graphics at the top of the page have got to go. (Sorry, Leonid!)

Having had very little to do (for a change) over the weekend, I made up a few new Pricscope graphics. These don''t fit with the current brushed metal theme, I know, and they would have to be reduced in size (or better, redone in a smaller size) but I''ll worry about that later.

Anyway, here''s my first choice...

Wow! That was really big. Unfortunately, I don't have any good image editing software on this computer so you'll just have to live with it.

Number two...

PS Logo 3.jpg

Number three...

PS Logo 4.jpg

And number four was too big to upload.

Maybe tomorrow.

I actually like the existing graphics. As they say, there's no accounting for taste.

Perhaps I'm in the minority.

Since the overhaul recently, the site looks excellent! I definitely like the brushed metal theme, the Pscope name itself maybe could use some jazzing up other than the font treatment, but as you can see from the top wrapper on the site, there isn't alot of room for Leo to get really creative with the Pscope treatments because he has the advertisement on there as well. So any of the images you posted would not work for this particular site because they will tend to overpower the rest of the design, and that's not any better than having a simple logo/font treatment.

I would choose what is up there now over any of those you posted. I am in eCommerce/Internet Marketing and part of my job is to manage redesigns and graphic creation for my company's site and eStore...so I look at mockups alot...Hee Hee.

It really is all about what floats ones boat!! Everyone's taste is different.

I vote for it staying the same. The name/logo of the site should not stomp all over the rest of the design on the site, the prize here on Pscope is the content--design is secondary IMO.

I like the existing graphic, to. Much more human, much less stenciled looking. But, who cares what my opinion is? I mean, Leonid is the developer and I don't hold stock (I assume that isn't even an option) - I come here for the info, not the graphics. I like your work, Leonid - on all levels.

I prefer Dave's graphics. I think that sometimes one just gets used to something and doesn't see how it can be improved. For example, every time a newspaper changes its font it gets complaints for a number of weeks!

I would like to see Dave's ideas reduced in size and integrated into the Pricescope page before saying, "older is better"!! (I *HATE spiders and a cobweb turns me off!!!)

I really don't think those graphics look better than the original one..and I see alot of graphics. No offense to Dave, but the first one isn't even readable as a name (and reducing that image will only make it harder to read) and the third looks like someone is just learning to use the Photoshop color gradient tool or had an explosion with their crayolas. I don't have anything against a new graphic or image that represents Pscope accurately, but I don't think any of these three images are even in the running for a 'professional' look.

The other issue to bring up is brand recognition. You may run the risk of reducing 'brand visibility' if you change the name significantly by using a new design and get rid of the spiderweb. So if the decision by Leonid is to modify the graphic 'Pricescope', I would definitely still leave the spider web up for continued brand recognition (and I think it's really cool).

Lastly, you can change content within a wrapper, but a site's wrapper normally stays pretty consistent for the most part, except for something like 2ce yearly site overhauls (which Leo already does). Even sites such as CNN or similar don't change their overall look and feel from week to week, they change the content within.

My two cents.

Thanks guys! I'm open and thankful for any critique and suggestions.

Personally, I like existing graphic so far but everything can be improved.

I'm actually working on some changes: functional as well as design. It's very scary to change something that is already works. What if you guys want like it?

On the other hand it's quite exciting

I cast my vote for the simple, elegant design we have now.

I think Mara's comments on the rationale of graphic design are right on the money. Isn't it neat how many different talents we've got in this group?

The "diamond on the web" is very clever, I think. Nicely executed, too - not cobwebby at all.

Leo I like the site set up and the recent upgrades you have done. I think you have worked well within the parameters for design versus function. I do like SuperIdealists ideas but with the current advertising stategy of having an ad banner which takes up a large portion of the Site Header I don't know how you would squish a new font style for PRICESCOPE...I think you have done well within the limits, and yes I agree trying to re-create the wheel so to speak while the wheels are already spinning in the right direction presents some anxieties that always come with change.

SuperIdealists I like your unique styles...

I heartily second that vote. I much prefer the present graphic than any of those suggested. Sorry......don't mean to hurt Dave's feelings.

Would you mind guys if I'd move this discussion into Diamond Hangout?----------------

Nope. It's nice that sometimes a discussion isn't too hot to handle :-).

Name recognition in the form of graphics as well- I'd stick with it.
