I was shopping this weekend for a engagement ring and happen to stroll into Jareds where I was told that they dont discount anything. Ive always been told when it comes to jewelry...buy it at 50% of sticker. Am I wrong here? The ring is a 1.5 princess,vs1,H,center and 1 ct, 10 princess stones in the band. Any help here?

I don''t know anything about Jareds but 50% seem pretty high. I know on designer settings (Tacori, Scott Kay...) there are no discounts.

you didn't say how much it cost.

but that's ok, because the answer is it's overpriced.

50% is too high, even for Jareds.

So should I shoot for 60% and do we know if they will or can sell for that???

14,900 for the cert. stone and 2999 for the ring. Seems way too high to me but I''m not an expert.

but you haven''t mentioned anything about the cut of the stone, which accounts for up to 50% of it''s price.

read: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/

the center shouldn''t cost anymore than 10K

I''ve noticed in maul stores that stones seem to have good specs at a good price but they don''t mention cut and the light leak will be so bad it appears blackish at many angles. What good is a VS1 H then?

they had a name for the quality but I really can''t remember the wording buy supposedly its on the high end and only 2 jewelers in town carry that level. I think I''ll just make an offer of something around 8k and see what happends. I''m not afraid to get laughed at.

Why make an offer of 8 thousand of your hard earned dollars on something that might be worth much less? Please, we (and YOU) need much more info here. Do you have any specs on this diamond? Was it graded by an independent lab or by Jareds? Is the setting gold or platinum? We want to help you but we need more to go on...

Your are soooo Right! I just need to take more time! The stone was graded outside (GIA? GAI? whatever) and the ring is white gold. The stone really was very white and the only enclusion was on the side. Thanks all of yall for the help here!

So does Jareds negotate or make deals? Anyone knows and and what %?

ditto...

I wouldn''t buy from them if they took 90% off. Because in my estimate, 90% of what they sell is crap or worse.

Hello svedf and welcome

There once was a major national retailer who sold all of their jewelry at 50% off every day of the year, year after year.

There once was a major national retailer who sold their gold chains at 50% off every day of the year, year after year.

Both of these retailers never sold their items at the ticketed price...just the 50% off ticketed price.

Shop wisely, compare, ask lots of questions, and don''t rush! After all, it''s your hard earned money.

No, Jared does not negotiate their prices, at least that is what I was told from them. As for the poster that said their stuff is crap, I have a beautiful diamond bracelet from them and it is far from crap. I also purchased my Omega watch from them, which they found to have a manufacturers defect after I owned (and wore it every day) for 6 months, and they turned around and gave me a brand new watch, no questions asked.

I have seen some nice/ok AGS stuff from them. HOWEVER, their stuff is madly overpriced.

I went looking for a pair of studs, because they have a store about 2 miles from my house. I tried on a few pairs, the salesman was very nice and somewhat knowledgeable. However, they didn't carry J stones, even by special order- they said they were not high quality. I took a little offense at that because my J out sparkled and out arrowed anything there and it looked much whiter than most of the GHI "quality" stones.

anyway, they offered me 1 carat total weight AGS H&A studs for about $2500 more than WF. That's right, they were almost twice the price. I guess you pay for convenience, but OVER TWO GRAND? come on.

I work too hard to fork over money that easily. I can only imagine how much overpriced their larger e-rings are. They really hustle their non-AGS stones too. I had to beg to look at the small AGS display.

jared''s actually has some rather nice stuff, at least the one by my house does.
