I am looking for a princess cut diamond in the range of $6000-$7000. Cut is very iportant so I want excellent to very good. I also prefer H-I color, and VS1-VS2 clarity. What carat do you think I can get with these parameters in my price range?

I came across findMyJeweler.com and this websites recommends Union Diamonds or Blue Nile as online sellers. I looked at both and Union Diamonds is much cheaper but it offers EGL certificates that are not very reputable (as I heard) I called Union Diamonds about one diamond I really liked and was told that it is sold already, I was recommended a different diamond also EGL but parameters were not as good. I did not like it and they offered me a “good” cut diamond when I asked for “premium" to "ideal”. I came back with questions about the new diamond that I picked myself but have never heard from them. I am a little afraid to buy online especially if my emails are left unanswered.

I have read a lot of good reviews about Union Dimonds so I still consider this seller. I also hope you can help me here. Can you please look at the diamond below and let me know what you think.

Thanks for your help!

crown height is much too shallow, highly doubt it will be well cut.

Everyone, Thank you very much for your replies !

JulieN, I think GOG is too expensive for me I want something bigger than 1.5 and all they have in these numbers are above my budget

Sizzle, I looked at the diamond that you suggested and noticed that it’s more rectangular than square. Not sure how it will look in the sating.

Also I heard that if the color is J, than a little of fluorescence makes diamond look whiter, is it true?

What do you think about this diamond from Whiteflash

Again, not enough information, no image as the stone is not an in-house stone.

Faint fluorescence will not do anything unless you are in a dark room with only UV illumination, you will need at least a Medium if not stronger. Also fluorescence is only activated in the presence of UV light, so it will not have a visible effect in all situations.

passing 1.5 cts is going to be hard with your original specifications. SI clarity would boost your options.

Yes it looks like I have to sacrifice some of the parameters. What do you think should go? Color or clarity?

Also how can I get more information about this stone? Can I request it from the Whiteflash?

I like these. You need to check if the SI2 is eye clean, and get ASET pictures.

I am not really interested in asking for pictures from Whiteflash's virtual database, it's too much of a gamble and potential frustration.

Jamesallen cut grades have no correlation to optical performance.
I would suggest the first one over the second one in terms of potential cut quality but It may not be eye clean.

It looks like the diamonds above have visible inclusions. Will James Allen provide ASET pictures if i contact them?

I have looked again at the diamond suggested by Sizzle http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2204180.htm

It’s good in terms of the size and the money ( I like more square shape but can settle on a bit rectangular ) but all the green in the picture does it mean that it does not do a good job of reflecting a light?

Also we live in NY City, can someone recommend a jewelry store that we can go and actually look at the diamonds?
I have relatively small hands (ring size 4.5 -5) so maybe a smaller carat size like
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7693/ with superior performance will look better than a big one but with poor performance.

Sorry for a lot of questions. I am totally overwhelmed with all this process. This ring is a “gift” from my husband on our anniversary but somehow I have to do all the shopping :)

JA will allow request for 3 ASET images.

James Allen is based in NYC and GoodOldGold is based in Long Island. Just call them and make an appointment to view the stones.

You are at a fair color range already. You can go down a little in clarity to an SI1 and not pay the premium for VS, just make sure the vendor you choose can check the stone's eye-cleanliness for you.
