Princess cut sapphire in a Diana style halo? Is it doable?

Totally random but I have an idea for a gemstone project. I’ve been searching everywhere for images but can’t find a single one. I have plans to cut a square cut sapphire and would love to set it in a chunky halo. Like a princess Diana ring but square center instead of oval. It sounds weird but I have the idea in my head. Ive been looking everywhere but haven’t seen anything for inspiration. The corners would probably pose an issue for the overall shape . Has anyone seen anything like this? I’ll attach my ridiculous sketch.

It is very rare to find princess cut natural sapphires (over 2cts) especially for blue ones.
Princess cut does not bring the best color/saturation for sapphires and it costs more weight to facet. If you want princess cut blue I would suggest to go for lab ones.

Thank you! I already have the stone covered (I’ll post once I have it!) I’m dreaming up ideas for it and would love to surround it with a chunky halo of old European diamonds. I’m just hoping for inspiration pictures but I can’t find any princess cuts with large stone halos. I guess it isn’t a thing.

Or did you want an oval halo for a square stone? Then that'd be the exact opposite

FWIW IMHO I don't think it will come off as a Princess Diana style ring due to the square center stone you intend, but still would be beautiful.

Ya not exactly princess Diana just sapphire with chunky halo and 8- 10 little prongs if that makes since. I guess I just call chunky halos with lots of little prongs princess Diana style but my stone isn’t even blue.

So I guess I’m being confusing. Scratch the princess Diana statement. Princess cut or square with chunky halo. Something like to this but with a more square stone. This is from someone I follow on Instagram. Probably a pricescoper so If you see this you have a beautiful ring lol. I’m hoping something like this is doable with a square stone. I can’t find any images of it at all so I’m wondering if the corners pose a problem for setting like this

I personally don't care for a mismatch between stone shape and halo shape, but to each their own! I think your idea is likely more doable if you can incorporate an air line. The first example is by far my favorite here, and I think it a modified version could work with a princess cut stone.

It's definitely possible but the halo will probably look better squared off using melee so that you don't have gaps between halo and centre stone. Have you thought about a halo using baguettes maybe? Of course that won't look like a Lady Di ring but it'll be a beautiful version of one!

Yep I’m thinking you are right. I’d have to add metal to transition the shape and I’m thinking I don’t want to do that. I’d love a chunky halo but I can’t force it when the stone isn’t right for it. I don’t even have the stone in hand so I was totally jumping ahead. I just need to be patient and see how I feel once I actually have my stone. I actually just saw a princess cut with baguettes on Instagram and it made my heart sing! Good idea!
