Hi,

I am getting a jeweller to make a copy of the D.Vatche X prong ring which will have a 1.1ct princess diamond in it. I am also having a wedding band made up. They will hopefully look like this but with a princess instead of a brilliant.

Here is anothe image of the band, the round stones are more noticeable in this photo.

Now my question is this.... should I have brilliant cut diamonds in the wedding band or should I have princess cut diamonds? Which would look better?

Also the jeweller said that the wedding band doesn''t need to be curved as it will sit flush with the engagement ring, is this true? If this was the case, why are all the wedding bands for the D.Vatche''s X-Prong curved?

Here is the engagement ring setting they have on their site.

I am unable to view the settings as I am in another country (yes I know that is a silly thing to do but it is much cheaper), should I go with what he/she is saying or request the band to be curved?

Cheers...

Grooveepants,

You can have either princess cuts or rounds for your wedding band since it looks like they will be channel set. Once rounds are channel set, it gives the illusion of being less rounded. In terms of sparkle, rounds will always outdo princess cuts. Still, it is your preference. Perhaps you will prefer princess cuts. Have you seen both sided by side to make a decision?

Yes, the rings will sit flush. The reason for the curve is that the center stone will tower over the wedding band will obscure a few diamonds on the wedding band that are directly "under" or aligned with the center stone. By having this curve, all the diamonds in the band will always been seen. The only drawback is that the band may look funky to some people when worn alone on the finger.

Id go round only because I think that's cool looking. My friend went Princess with hers and I don't really care for the look even though my opinion means diddly.

If you want it to be a flat and uncurved band you need the head of the setting up higher than that so that it doesn't jut out.

Well, this is JMO, so it doesn't mean much, but if you are having a princess cut for the e-ring, I would go with princess cuts for the band. To me, it is more of a "clean" look, whereas throwing in various shapes just gets too "busy" IMO.
As to the issue of the band, I personally would rather have it sit flush and not curve outward, as I like the look of the center diamond "flowing over" the band. Also, I think that the band on its own, if curved, looks ridiculous, and then you are really limiting your options.
I really love the look of the x-prong with a princess cut.

Whos the jeweler thats going to make the copy ?

Always like to know who has talent enough to make great rings.

Ok, I have decided to go for a straight band with princess cut diamonds in it. I will hopefully be getting a picture of it today or tomorrow. I hope it's ok, it's very nerve racking not knowing what it is going to look like. If it looks like the pictures I gave the jeweller then I will be happy, lets hope the jeweller is good at what he does.

By the way, I got the diamond from diamondexchange and their jeweller is doing the settings.

I think you made a great decision. The princess cut bands are gorgeous, and I think you will be happy having the flexibility to wear the band on its own. Why don't you have the jeweler allow you to approve the process every step of the way? You can go in to see a cad-cam computer image of it (if your jeweler does that) and approve or make modifications, then approve or make modifications to the wax, and then again to the cast piece before they do the finish work and set the stones. Then you'll feel more comfortable.
Can't wait to see what the finished version looks like! Please post to this thread when it is finished!
