So, DBF and I have been spending our evenings watching HGTV (in high definition of course) shows like "My First Place" and "Property Virgins" (which sounds, erm, racy). We''ve decided to start looking at homes for sale in August, and hopefully close on something by late October or November, so we can take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit, which expires November 30. Not to mention, home prices are finally reasonable again here in South Florida.

I know that he wanted to pop the question before the end of this year, but I really didn''t have a clue as to when. We have pretty much decided on a November 2010 wedding, and I expressed my feelings about being engaged for a year beforehand, to have plenty of time to plan and enjoy our time as an engaged couple before tying the knot.

Well, I got more answers out of him last night

He said that at the end of this month, he will have $5,000 in savings (we''re shooting for $10,000 toward a house), and then kind of mused aloud that he had to budget for my ring, too. I said, "Oh, and when is that coming?" to which he replied, "November, or maybe October." I said, "Oh, is something important happening around that time?" and he said, "We''re closing on the house, that''s important." Pause. "But no, nothing in particular. That''s all you get to know. Remember, I''m doing the planning. You''re not supposed to be involved!" I said, "Well, it''s definitely happening this year, right?" and he goes, "Yep, this year, just like we discussed!" Goodnight kiss exchanged, and then we zonked out.

This makes me think that the proposal might come when we close on the house, get the keys and open the door for the first time with it as our house (I saw another LIW recently got engaged and her FI proposed like this or something similar!).

Also, I''m running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 22, and we''re spending four days in Philly. When I ran DC in March, DBF told me about a woman who finished before me, and her SO proposed to her right when she crossed the finish line. I remember telling him that I thought that''s a sweet proposal idea, and it would be nice to have a destination proposal, too

That also might be what he''s planning, but I honestly have no idea.

So, I can relax for now, instead of thinking that every weekend will be "IT". Four or five months is not that far away! I have Philly training and a few other races to keep me more than occupied, and I can hold off getting regular manicures until October, and save myself $20

Just thought I''d share! We really don''t talk about the impending engagement that often, so it''s nice to have an update! Have a great Friday, fellow LIWs.

woohoo for progress!

What a fun conversation! Seems like he has a pretty clear vision of how things will unfold... yay!

It''s also great that you have some big stuff to concentrate on. Though I know long marathon training runs do give you PLENTY of time to let your mind wander...

! We have come a long way. A couple of years ago, marriage came up and we both decided we were too young. We went through a rough time, but ended up learning a lot about ourselves and came to be on the same page about our future.

Yeah, he''s the type of guy who meticulously plans things out. I''m the fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants part of the relationship

I completely agree with you on having a year to plan, and enjoying being engaged. You only get to be a fiance for such a short while, and husband and wife for forever! I mean, as for the planning, me and my FF want to do mostly DIY stuff, so the time will be UBER appreciated.

That''s definitely good news!
