stayed home and read a book.
A good friend of mine and his date were killed by a drunk driver that night coming home from the prom.
If my date hadn''t had a family emergency come up I might have been in the car too because we had planned to double.

Well I was supposed to go with a guy friend. I told him that we can hitch a ride with my cousin and her bf. He wanted to go in a limo with other people who I kno but not close to. I didn''t want to pay $90 for it, so I told him if he pays for it then it''s fine. He pocketed out $180 for us. Then his friend asked my little sister to the prom, and my date wanting to back out of the limo sold the our spots to his friend. Then he told me that we would go with my cousin. I got upset because my sister didn''t know the people in the limo and I wanted to ride with my cousin to begin with. Anyways we got in a big argument over it . I told him to ask someone else to go with him and my sister ended up not going because she didn''t want to be in the limo. I wasn''t even going to go the prom after that. But then he got another date and told people that I couldn''t get a date if I didn''t go with him (just being a jerk). So I ended up going with a friend from middle school and I worn my older sister''s prom dress because I didn''t have enough time to buy one. We also got pulled over because one of my date''s headlights was out, but since we were heading to prom, the cop let us off. We had a blast. After the prom, his date kept telling me that I am lucky I didn''t go with him. She said he was so obnoxious and had no manner at dinner; that food was all over his face. I kind of feel bad for him because I knew that''s how he is and that''s just him. We never talked again after that.

It so sad to lose a friendship over that. I try to mend our friendship during our college years, but he was still very bitter. I feel so childish looking back now. There''s definitely parts that I wish didn''t happen or could change.

My senior prom was great but my boyfriend went to a different high school so I was invited to go with him to his prom too. It was a nice night until everyone figured out that the band was a no-show. The ball room was completely deserted by 9:30pm.

OMG the prom!

So my Junior year, I was a Junior officer on Student Council, and it was basically our responsibility to plan the Junior/Senior prom so that the Seniors didn''t have to worry about it. I had THE laziest group of people working with me, which meant that me and one of my friends ended up planning the whole dern thing by ourselves.
11.gif
I seriously stressed over every last insignificant detail (like making sure that under the candlelight from the centerpieces the napkins still matched the murals we''d painted for the walls).
20.gif
I never thought about it this way, but I think that prom was the root of my anti-big-wedding-itis, because planning an event for several hundred people was a freakin'' nightmare!
14.gif

By the time it actually came around, I didn''t even want to go because I was so sick of it all. But I knew (or thought) that I had to be there to make sure everything went alright. So the day of prom I went to get my hair done by a friend of my mom''s who owned a salon. I''d already gone for a trial, and knew I wanted a half up half down ''do with spiral curls. I still don''t know what happened... but I walked out of the salon with some kind of POODLE-MULLET!
6.gif
. Flat on top, frizzy in the back.... SO stylish! (Crying) in the car on the way home I brushed it all out with my fingers, which of course made it worse. My mom basically had to comb it all out with water and re-form each curl. I ended up wearing it all down and having Darryl Hannah mermaid curls, which actually didn''t look too bad and went pretty well with my dress. But I was traumatized... which was probably the root of my ant-getting-my-hair-done-in-an-updo-itis!

So we went to the prom and I spent the whole night micromanaging... I didn''t even dance a single dance with my poor date! Just an awful, stressful night!
7.gif

My senior prom was a whole ''nother story. Since the juniors had to plan it, I just got to show up!
9.gif
I went with my best guy friend and we had a fantastic time. I was wearing the cutest dress EVER, that I''d gotten made and that I still love (and might wear to my rehearsal dinner!). We decided to forego the whole limo thing and instead rolled up to the prom in his grandma''s forest green Lincoln Town Car, with the windows down blasting Limp Bizkit''s "Faith."
10.gif
We danced all night and then went to a movie with a bunch of friends around 1:00am because one of our friends was a "manager" at the local cinema... and had "borrowed" the keys that night. I had the best time!
9.gif

Ah, memories!

hehe my jr prom i went with some guy that was a friend of a guy my friend was dating, it was soo forgettable....!! bad dress too.

for my senior prom, i had a boyfriend, my first REAL love and he was in college...he totally didn't want to come back to HS to go to my prom (hahaha) but after a few dramatic discussions (ahh to be 17!), he agreed to come, and we had a great time. it was at a country club, i had my dress custom made and hair and makeup done, and we double dated with my friend and her boyfriend...nothing spectacular or dramatic happened. i was sooo happy to go with someone i loved rather than some random friend of a friend like jr prom. i have great memories!

DB broke my toe dancing, the chem teacher (ew) hit on me, and then we couldn''t find a place to park. Harump!

We had our graduation ceremonies, followed by the "prom" dance thing (small town Canada style)...and I stayed for the father/daughter dance, and then took off to the biggest party I''ve ever been too! I went with my high-school love, and it was the first time I stayed out all night! It was awesome! I have a dorky picture somewhere of my asymetrical haircut...I''ll see if I can find it so you guys can have a good guffaw!

UGH!!! PROM!!! UGH!!! I went to Prom as a Jr.... sans date. My senior year I asked the boy I was dating to go with me to the prom. He said he had to go to his dad''s that night. So I did not go. Took back my dress and everything. The night of the prom I decided to at least go to the after prom party. So I did... he was there with another girl, he had gone to rpom with her and forgot to tell me. I was mortified, crushed and embarrassed. he was Mr. Popular, so it did not effect him. I am so glad that I had not shown up at prom and had seen them together then. I would have been even more embarrassed and miserable. That was one of the worst nights of my young life.

I have nothing but bad memeories about both my proms.

Oh, I feel so badly for you! It''s supposed to be such a good experience...

Last weekend, we visited friends whose daughter was going to her senior prom. She cried because her hair didn''t turn out, her corsage order went missing...and then it was too cold in LA for the strapless dress she was wearing! She didn''t have a "date", but went with a buddy...

I hope she has a blast!!

ETA: And I hope you have enough money left over for sparklies! Those proms are bankbreakers these days!

Hee hee, I have some pics for ya! These are my senior prom, 1995. My date was a complete dork...Kellie Pickler on AI would''ve loved him--he was a "redneck."

Here''s another, I must''ve spent a whole month in the tanning bed Jeez!

Prom was probably not the best memory for me...as you can see, I was tall in high school and by senior year this guy was one of only a couple BF''s I''d had. The pickins were a little slim back in those days, lol!

I just remember spending like 3 hours doing my hair and getting ready, and that was basically the fun part!

Kaleigh, I''m sure your daughter will have a great time! Hope it goes well!

Oh, prom.

Junior year, I actually went with our high school quarterback! He was a really down-to-earth, smart guy, and we shared a lot of classes and had a similar group of friends. We had dinner beforehand at his mom''s beautiful house. My mom put on her chef''s coat and hat and cooked us a wonderful dinner. The dance itself was fun but not that eventful. My date kept teasing me a little bit for being taller than him (5''11" vs 5''10"), so eventually I kicked off my heels and then I think he felt a little bad. We didn''t go to any real after parties, but I went to an all-girls sleepover at a friends house where we watched girlie movies like Miss Congeniality.

I really had to work to remember the evening, because the quarterback was also my date to Homecoming and it was hard to remember which evening was which. We went to a Chinese restaurant before the Homecoming dance with some of the other football players and their dates, who were some of the popular, snooty girls in the school. At one point they told me, "Blenheim, you''re coming to the bathroom with us," and then proceeded to check themselves out in the mirror while telling me that we needed to hang out in there for a bit because the bill was going to come anytime, and there wouldn''t be any question of who was paying if none of the girls were there. I was pretty naive at that point, and didn''t realize that girls did that kind of thing. It was nice to spend time just with him (and our moms
2.gif
) when the actual prom came around.

Senior year had a little more drama, I suppose. Everyone around me seemed to be getting dates but me. I kept subtly hinting to this one guy who I had had a crush on for a long time that he should ask me, but he didn''t pick up on it. I think that I actually asked one or two guys, who turned me down.
38.gif
Finally, I started making plans with a couple of single friends and our mutual friends who had kind of coupled up. Then, the guy I kind of had a crush on sent one of his friends over to ask me to the prom. At that point, I was mad that he took so long that I said no. I went out with my friends to the Melting Pot
18.gif
before prom, and then had a relatively good time dancing and hanging out with my girlfriends. I finally ended up dancing some with the guy I had a crush on.

I don''t have any pics, because my harddrive completely died about two years ago. But I wore a poofy yellow Jessica McClintock dress my junior year, and a greenish blueish similarly puffy dress with embroidered and beaded flowers my senior year. My mom forced me to wear makeup, which is funny in retrospect because I turned into such a girlie girl when I went to college.

Kaleigh, I hope that your daughter has a wonderful, drama-free evening!

My memories have faded in the last 15 years but I remember being VERY excited about my junior prom. I had asked my date to go with me, and he was (gasp!) younger than me, a mere sophomore. But we were good friends and knew we''d have fun. The group we went with was not my usual crowd (the homecoming queen was part of it), and I do remember feeling not-quite-cool-enough in that caste-system high school way. And I felt left out a lot of the time because they all had their inside jokes and stories, but they were friendly enough to me. The next year, for my senior prom, I kept waiting for someone to ask me, but no one did. It wasn''t until after the prom that my locker buddy (guy next to me) said that if he had known I wasn''t going, he woulda asked me. Oh well! I ended up just hanging out with some girlfriends the night of senior prom (I think...like I said, my memories are fuzzy!).

Oh lord the Senior Prom.. I try to bury those pictures, I mean you should have seen my 80's hairdo - I think it was a cross between "Wolfen" and "Wind Tunnel" look. Oh god & the dress, all I can say is "what the heck was I thinking" I mean really. The really wierdo thing is my group picture is the funniest thing because all my friends looked alike.. some wierd fusion between Molly Ringwald & Madonna. YIKES.

I totally had alot of fun but spent the later of the night fending off "Octopus" arms seriously if my brothers knew how this guy was they would have killed em.

My HS prom was boring... Didn''t have a date, didn''t dance... And the pictures turned out orange, so I don''t have much. *shrugs* Maybe I''ll have more fun at my uni graduation ball in a couple of years, if I even go. At least I''ll have a date!

Wow. Great thread. Broke up with my girlfriend the month before the prom, was discussing the break up with one of my good friends (still is today), and we decided to go together. Found out later she ditched another guy to go with me. She wore pink with her hair down, not up like all the other girls, and looked spectacular! I wore a dinner jacket with mauve and cream swirls (no lie!), but it looked better than the velvet tuxes half my classmates wore, many with sneakers.

Prom was a dinner dance in the penthouse ballroom of the Sheraton Brock Hotel overlooking Niagara Falls. Great views with the colored lights. We had the best time because we were just friends and had no problems with circulating and dancing with all of our other friends there. (Not that we didn''t have fun retrieving the garter anyway!
31.gif
) Which reminds me (funny how these memories come back when you start thinking about something) that my date told me about one of our classmates who stormed into the ladies room, hiked up her floor length gown, and removed her own garter. When informed that she was supposed to let her date do that, she responded: "Have you seen who I''m with?!!!"

After prom, we went to the class president''s house for a party and were met at the door by his mother carrying a bottle of boose.
23.gif
She proceeded to inform us that we had a lot of catching up to do (drinking age was 18; I''m old). We were due back at my house at 4:30 for a breakfast with 12 of my friends. Got there at 6:00am and found my parents feeding 40 people - my brother had been inviting additional people all night. Sacked out in my living room (with all 40) until 10 and then met more classmates for a trip to Shirksten Quarry beach. Promptly fell asleep on the sand and got burned to a crisp. The same friend was my date to our 10 year reunion.

Now I''ve been through proms with 2 of my kids without nearly as much drama, at least as far as I know.
28.gif
However, it was interesting to see 4 couples consisting of 1000 lbs of tuxedoed guys and at most 400 lbs (soaking wet) of young ladies get into the limo in front of my house. The guys, including my son, were offensive linemen for the varsity football team. (He was the runt at 5''10", 225; the tallest was 6''5" and the heaviest just short of 300 lbs.)

I hope things went well tonight Lisa.

I am loving all these stories. I am still waiting up, going to be a long night for moi. Ok my prom stories aren't too exciting. Had a serious boyfriend, he went to mine and I went to his. He went to a different school than me. My fondest memories were the after parties!!! They were better than the prom!!! Ashley got dressed at a friend's house with a bunch of her friends. So I didn't get to see her until tonight. She looked so beautiful. Her guy is such a cutie, and they looked great together. Now I wait for my princess to come home. This is the hard part. She better not keep me up too late, Lol!!!

Me too, Mine...I was asked to our Senior Cotillion(which was the big "to do" prom of the year) by a guy who was out of school and I had a serious crush on. I had the dress, the boutinneer...everything...but him. He stood me up

Proms...just are not good memories for me...not until I met my FH at college. Only then, did I get to actually go and have a blast, even when he spun me around--a bit too hard--and I fell to the ground. I was ok and we laughed and had a tremendous time.

That was the ONLY dance that has kept me dancing to this day...

Strm - I''m so sorry to hear about your friends the night of your prom.

This thread is great...I went to 2 proms - one when I was a sophomore & one w hen I was a junior. I went to both with my now-fiance.

Sophomore year was fun. We went with a group of 18 (yes, 18) people & had to rent a party bus instead of a limo because we couldn''t fit! I wore a pink dress (that I still love!), and wore my hair in a pony tail with spiral curls. My fi wore a black tux & I got him a yellow rose boutinerre because his fav. color is yellow. The party van was so funny. We all met at my fi''s house & he has this crazy curvy steep driveway & the driver could not get back down after coming up! We had to guide the bus into turning around on their lawn and finally made our way. One of our friends dad''s gave the driver terrible directions & we ended up being late and missing the whole "cocktail hour". We had our formal pictures taken & when we got them back, they were terrible! Digital cameras really started to come around at this point (99) & they thought it would be a good idea to take our pics with a crappy digi cam. They were pixellated & totally orange! After the prom, we spent the weekend at one of our friends houses in LBI with her parents (ick!)

Junior year there was some major drama going on with the group of friends we went to the prom with previously. Fi & I were fighting a lot cause he was now in college & I was in h.s. still, so we went with a very strange mixture of people. Everyone met at my house & it was so odd because my English teacher was there (his daughter was only a year older than me). I wore a cream colored dress, hated my hair, but my fi did look very nice
31.gif
. The food was better the second year (it was at the same place) & after the prom, we spent the weekend in Seaside in a dirty, gross hotel where we heard gun shots at night. Our friends were down the street at another hotel, but we never even went to see them
7.gif
.

I didn''t go to my senior prom because I was so over high school by the time it came around. I was spending most of my time at my fi''s college & I only had about 3 friends in my own grade. I don''t ever regret not going - especially b/c fi & I were able to afford to go to Cancun the summer after my senior year from saving all the money to not go to prom!

Lisa - Did Ashley make it home alright?? I''m sure she had a blast!

Oh Kaleigh!
How did it go-last night??
My daughter (a jr) goes to her prom next week! It has been a whirlwind week for her-she went to Amsterdam, Paris, and London over spg break and next week is prom. She is going with a good guy friend she wishes was more- has the dress-a hair appt-the whole thing. I''m so excited for her. I didn''t go to prom-moved to a different town my jr yr and I was soooooooo shy. The good thing about my daughter''s prom is that they have chosen a location pretty close to our house, so we''ve invited the girls from her class (small school, a town away) to spend the night here-since the jrs ar in charge of set up/clean up. I don''t know how that is going to work-with the possibility of her first good night kiss (with all her friends coming over). Big sigh.

She had a blast!! She got home around 2:00. And was full of stories . I haven''t seen the pics yet cause she is still alseep. But she was on cloud 9!!!!
9.gif

Glad to hear it Kaleigh!

Glad she had a great time. Memories last a lifetime.

Awww, that''s GREAT Kaleigh! Sounds like she had a super fun time!

Glad to hear she had fun!

My senior prom was an interesting night. It was back in 1994, not far after the whole OJ Simpson white bronco chase. Well that day there was some big chase on I-94 in Chicago where the police were chasing a big white SUV and backed up the highway for miles. (on TV the footage looked just like the OJ footage!). So our limo was stuck in the traffic jam and ended up being late. Earlier that day my BFF and I went to get our hair done and my hair was a frizzy dirty mess but I didnt care because I thought they would wash it before putting it up so I didnt bother. NOPE! They just put my hair up as is, and it felt and looked so bad! I was almost in tears but we didnt have time to do it over.

So there I was with my nasty hairdo at my HS boyfriends house waiting for our limo. There were supposed to be 5 couples in the limo, but 3 backed out at the last minute so it was just me, my date, my BFF and her boyfriend. And my boyfriend''s mom, who hated me, kept telling me how terrible I looked and the money her son wasted on my flowers, etc. She was a nasty person, blah.

Finally the limo arrived, but it was Friday night in Chicago so it did take us forever to get downtown to the hotel. When we got there we walked in the ballroom and found a table and sat down. Until the rest of the tablemates came, and we didnt recognize them. WE WALKED INTO THE WRONG PROM! haha. we finally made our way to the right ballroom.

All the popular girls were already drunk and being totally obnoxious. They decided to have a food fight in the middle of dinner at the Palmer House. REAL classy girls. A filet mignon came flying at our table and hit the salad dressing container, hurling it at my friend''s boyfriend. I got hit in the back of the head with a bread roll. Then the waiter got hit with something and lost his balance from the shock, and spilled water all over my white satin dress. I was so mad!

They had asked for us to submit some pictures of ourselves and friends during HS for the prom slide show, which we all did. None of our pics made the cut, only the pics of the same 10 popular drunk girls who were in charge of the video, and their dumb friends. They would jump up on stage and grab the mike and start slurring into it. Their dates snuck alcohol into prom. But none of the chaperones did anything, even though it was illegal.

Finally prom was over, and my so called BFF and her man ditched us because they said they could not afford the limo even though they rode halfway with us. So my date and I were stuck with an over $400 limo bill. No one even wanted to go out after prom, so my date and I went to get some white castle burgers, and then called it a night.

I was so glad to graduate and get out of HS! LOL!

PunchNPie, there is an old teen slasher film called ''Prom Night''. I think yours tops the movie as one of the worst proms ever.
