I had initially decided on a setting but the prongs were the same for princess as they are for rounds so it kind of made me nervous so now i''m looking for another.

this is the one i initially was to get but now passig on (thank god it wasnt ordered yet): previous thread

I was curious what PS''ers thought about prongs/claws on princess cut rings?

I think these type are more secure:

prong1
prong2

I like the corner type too but I have noticed that Leo diamonds does a ring with a half-carat stone which is set in normal prongs, so I don''t know if there is a difference in the safety.

v-prongs are definitely more secure and also protect the corners from chips.

Ditto, but either way I''d recommend insuring your ring. Then you don''t have to worry about it if something happens.

most def getting insurance but will worry about that once have the ring and get it appraised.

but right now trying to find a ring with the prongs/claws like listed above in a novo type setting or 1/2 - 3/4 eternity. main thing is she does not like the ring to rise going to the prongs.

People say V-prongs are more secure, but I just don't like the look. I set mine in delicate split prongs, but I got insurance too. It's been fine so far (knock on wood!).

When you say she doesn't want the ring to rise up to the prongs, does that mean she doesn't like a cathedral setting? Would she like something like this perhaps? Or this? Maybe this? Whiteflash has really good workmanship, and if you buy the diamond somewhere else, you could still have it sent to them to be set.

ETA: I think this is actually my favorite of the bunch when it comes to non-cathedral settings.

lol actually those are ones she likes. i've already had sent those over to Marie at GOG as examples if she can find something siimilar with 1 of the other claws. i'm a worrier by nature so i dont know if i can handle the other more delicate prongs that were designed for rounds not princess cuts.

Marie at GOG was able to find a very similar ring to the Knox setting for me. It was even better with .32ct on the band. Going to take a few weeks to get the same prong put on it so next stop will be SMTR section in a 3-4 weeks! ;-)

Glad to hear that you''ve made up your mind, mryan! Looking forward to seeing the final product!
(BTW- I LOVE that Knox setting!!)

ring comes in 8hrs! i''m pretty excited to see it though I likely won''t post pics till I propose which i doubt will be on v-day. just not a v-day proposer i suppose lol. so grateful for all the info and help from PS! Marie at GOG said it looks awesome and the diamond looks huge on the ring!
