While browsing dresses on ebay last night, I ran across a Pronovias "Laura" for sale. Oh, it''s gorgeous! Since the price was so low, I went ahead and put a bid on it.

Well, now the auction is ending in around 4 hours, and the bidding is up to $238.50. I run between a 4 and a 6, so it would have to be taken in a bit, but it''s definitely the sort of dress I''d like. The lace! The mermaid silhouette! The delicate straps (I have very bony shoulders)!

But...I haven''t been to try on dresses yet. I THINK it would look good on me, and so do a few of my trusted friends, but I obviously don''t have the time to go try it on before the auction ends.

Should I just forget it? On the other hand, what a good deal, right? I love the look of the Pronovias dresses, but I can''t justify spending ~$1000 on a dress, especially when FH and I are looking at house-buying.

Guess I''m just looking for a burst of sanity - should I be discouraged or enabled on this one?

That dress is stunning! I say go for it!

I never went to try on dresses. I found THE dress I loved for so long on eBay for a couple hundred dollars and bid on it, figuring if it didn''t fit I would just resell it (it helped that the seller posted their measurements). Well it was the first and only dress I tried on and I never regretted it one bit! It fit perfectly and needed no alterations. If you think it could be THE dress, go for it!

Great dress!
I love lace so i say go for it BUT are you a 4-6 in street clothes or 4-6 in wedding dress sizes.. they seem to be quite different.
I would look up the messurments for Pronovias and do a quick messure to make sure you have the right dress size.

I'd normally say no, don't buy a dress before trying it on, but a stunning Pronovias for under $300? Veeeery tempting.

Make sure you're 100% confident with the seller, and as Snow mentioned, get the measurements of the dress. I'm a 4-6 in street clothes and my wedding dress was a size 10.

That is a beautiful dress!!!!!!!!! I say go for it!!! BUT...

If you are a size 4, the 6 may actually be just about right or it may actually be too tight!.

My dress in St Patrick which is part of Pronovias. I am a between a 2 and a 4...and my wedding dress is a size 8!!!

Go over to the Pronovias site and get the measurement chart and make sure it fits. The charts are actually pretty accurate.

If the chart says it fits, then I would definitely get it!

I''m a "go with the gut" kind of person. So I say go with your gut. Good luck!

Hmmm...according to the size chart, I''m between 6 and 8 for bust, 4 and 6 for waist, and 6 for hips.

Shoot, I don''t have a tape measure either, so I''m doing some impromptu measurements here.

Would a 10 be too big to take in? I may be able to enlist the help of my mother, who is an amazing seamstress.

Thank you so much (you enablers, you!)!

It''s beautiful Aloros-if the sizing is right I would definitely go for it.

A 10 may be too big for you, but you should be able to take it in.

Usually you want to go by your biggest measurement, so that would be the 8...but who knows, a 6 may be fine too. I was helpful wasn''t I?...lol

Is there another one up for auction?. EBay now has all of the past season Pronovas dresses at incredible prices!. For that price it may be worth to get it and if it doesn''t fit then you can re-sell it?.

M~

Oh, rotten. Someone sniped it from me 2 seconds away from the ending of the auction.

Mandarine, I noticed that! I searched and found a couple more beautiful Pronovias and San Patrick gowns for a steal. Well, now that I have the luxury of time, I''m probably going to find out if any of the local salons carry them so I can try them on in person!
