So last night in bed, we were chatting like we always do before we fall asleep. I was telling SO about my coworker's cute Christmas-time engagement story (more on that below) and how I really liked it.
Him: 'Everyone does it at Christmas. It's kind of cliche and expected. I know at least 6 guys who've proposed around that time.'
Me: 'That's because Christmas is such a happy time of year! I love Christmas, it's my favourite. I prefer that to something like a Valentine's Day proprosal!'.
Him: 'Ooh, so no Valentine's Day, huh? Any other days I should stay away from?' (in a teasing way)
Me: 'Aw, I didn't mean it like that. Any day you pick, including Valentine's Day, will be perfect'
I couldn't help but be a teensy bit disappointed about his Christmas remarks. Logically, I knew there probably wouldn't be money for the kind of ring he wants to buy by this Christmas anyway, but I was still holding out a tiny shred of hope that it might happen by then. (I really don't think he's trying to throw me off-track - he's been pretty honest about this sort of thing overall). But hey, at least I know it's coming!
Now, for the cute proposal story:
Coworker's now-H picked her up after work one day in December so they could go to the Christmas tree lot and pick out a real tree. He was dressed up in some winter coveralls since it was really cold out. They were walking around the lot, looking at all the trees and finally decided on one. He said he was going to go pay so they could take it home and disappeared for a moment. He came back right away in a suit (must've had it on underneath) and proposed! I thought that was sweet. And a good way to surprise someone.
