So last night in bed, we were chatting like we always do before we fall asleep. I was telling SO about my coworker's cute Christmas-time engagement story (more on that below) and how I really liked it.

Him: 'Everyone does it at Christmas. It's kind of cliche and expected. I know at least 6 guys who've proposed around that time.'
Me: 'That's because Christmas is such a happy time of year! I love Christmas, it's my favourite. I prefer that to something like a Valentine's Day proprosal!'.
Him: 'Ooh, so no Valentine's Day, huh? Any other days I should stay away from?' (in a teasing way)
Me: 'Aw, I didn't mean it like that. Any day you pick, including Valentine's Day, will be perfect'

I couldn't help but be a teensy bit disappointed about his Christmas remarks. Logically, I knew there probably wouldn't be money for the kind of ring he wants to buy by this Christmas anyway, but I was still holding out a tiny shred of hope that it might happen by then. (I really don't think he's trying to throw me off-track - he's been pretty honest about this sort of thing overall). But hey, at least I know it's coming!

Now, for the cute proposal story:
Coworker's now-H picked her up after work one day in December so they could go to the Christmas tree lot and pick out a real tree. He was dressed up in some winter coveralls since it was really cold out. They were walking around the lot, looking at all the trees and finally decided on one. He said he was going to go pay so they could take it home and disappeared for a moment. He came back right away in a suit (must've had it on underneath) and proposed! I thought that was sweet. And a good way to surprise someone.

awww i love christmas!!! :-) im probably partial to it since my bday is 2 days before! hahaha

Mine is 6 days before!

Mine is 2 days before, too! (Dec 23)

But I already told SO that he CANNOT propose to me during the month of December! For years, I have gotten only one gift from everyone that is titled "Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas!"

I got that a lot as a kid! Annoying.

Even now I threaten to "move" my birthday to July and celebrate then

what an awesome proposal.
I always thought a proposal in wintertime with snow would be extremely romantic, unfortunatly I live in florida where it gets the lowest 70 degrees so no snow!

BUT, I do hope you get your dream engagement, wouldn''t it be fun to get it a few days before Christmas and then be able to celebrate it with your family and friends during the holidays!?

how cute! my bday is 13 days before xmas so i dont really like to share the two.. but i would settle :)

Winter proposals are fabulous, aren''t they?

I always dreamed of a perfect night of strolling around town, hand-in-hand, looking at holiday lights on people''s houses, dressed up in winter attire, with mugs of cocoa... Coming home to a great winter-y themed movie and a fire in the fireplace, snuggled on the couch, and then *bam* a beautiful rock

PilsnPinkys Mom - Where do I sign up? That sounds perfect.

A good friend of mine had a really cute Christmas-y proposal a few years ago. He was living in SC, she was living in DE and they went home to his parent''s house in MA for Christmas. He had the ring shipped there, and he tied the ring to an ornament and put it on the tree and told her he had something special for her on the tree and she had to look for it! It took her long enough but she finally found it and he proposed. I thought that was a really cute story!

Unfortunately their marriage only lasted about 2 years...so it is really sad!

She''s probably better off though! But I still love that proposal story!

Aw, i''ve always had my heart set on a christmas time proposal -- and my birthday is on christmas day, who knew we had so many christmas babies on PS!!
