Protect ring while weight lifting?

Hi everyone,

My husband lifts weights every morning. Mostly the type on one long bar that he lies down under and lifts upwards.
His wedding ring is quite wide and difficult to take off and on every day.
Is there a way to protect the ring while he exercises? Would some kind of gloves work?

Thanks!

Gloves for lifting.

Or, I just keep my now-very-old 14K 5mm plain wedding band on (it's supposed to have character!) but would take off any other ring.

EDIT: Son beat his up this way, but only on the palm side. Daughter bent her pretty stout ring out-of-round just by carrying a 60-lb backpack by the handle.

I used to do weights and wore gloves BUT what can happen if you’re wearing a ring you can “pinch” the skin as you roll the bar in your hands as you lift and it will cause a blood blister (it’s hurts).
Better not to wear a ring.

I lift weights and I normally take my rings off since they have diamonds in them.

But for a plain metal band I'd suggest getting a silicon ring cover to put over it and protect the ring. I think Amazon sells them.

Definitely remove your rings before weight lifting. I wear weight lifting gloves but would not consider wearing my rings even with the gloves protecting them somewhat. It can be dangerous to wear jewelry when working out. Remove the bling for safety and peace of mind.

Simple solution, don’t wear ring while weight lifting.

This ^ # physics. The pressure of weight and surface areas (pounds per square inch) will bend the ring - if he won’t take the ring off, pad the bar and wear gloves.

I've witnessed a very nasty injury due to this and I always take my ring off when lifting weights. I've also subsequently lost (and found) my ring as a result!

Thank you all for your unanimous advice! I'll tell him he just has to take it off. It's not too tight - just wide, and it's summer here, so his fingers are a bit puffy at the moment.
Tell him to run his hand under some cool water before taking it off. That’s what I do when my fingers are a little puffy but I need to take off a ring! :D

I switch to a silicone ring when lifting or doing any physical activity... mine is by groove but there are a few companies that make them and they are cheap.

The best advice has already been given multiple times: remove jewelery before activities such as weight lifting.

No serious lifter will wear gloves while lifting. It compromises your grip too much and you need the contact with the knurling of the bar. You also risk really terrible injuries like degloving (google at your own risk), or having your finger torn off.

As has been said, the best option is truly a silicone ring or nothing. Enso makes great and comfortable silicone rings. I have one and have worn it during both powerlifting and weightlifting training.

Cool soapy water will help him get the ring off. If it's that difficult to take off, he may want to consider having it sized to the proper size as a well fitting ring will a little resistance coming off, but not to the point it's difficult to get off. That's a recipe for disaster. Don't wear rings (stones or not) while working out.
