All of this paranormal talk has got me thinking about psychics. Has anyone ever gone to one? Were they accurate?

My mom went to a party where there was a psychic giving out readings. The psychic knew (without my mom telling her) that I lived across the country and was very homesick. She said that within 5 years I''ll be moving back to the east coast with a couple of toddlers in tow.

She said that although there were uncertainties in my relationship I am with the person I am supposed to be with. We are going to be engaged within two years, and we will have 3 children. Two boys and a girl. My mother is going to be very close with the first boy.

So, at the time I was going through some weird stuff with the boyfriend. We weren''t really communicating, he was gone all the time, and I started spending more time with people from work. One of which was a guy who I had become really good friends with and seemed to have so much more in common with than my boyfriend. It was a really confusing time for sure.

That psychic told my mom that I need to stop talking to that guy. She even knew that he was an aries. She said that we weren''t compatible...that I''m just confused and I''ll figure it out by myself. She said I was definitely better off with my current boyfriend.

When my mother told me all of this it prompted me to seek out my own psychic in my area. Just for fun. I live in houston and there are tons of little psychic places that advertise readings for 10 bux. So, I went in there knowing that it probably wouldn''t be that great. I figure a really good psychic would charge more.

Well, this lady....despite the fact that her toddler was running around naked and we were sitting at her dining room table...she really seemed to know a LOT about me just by looking at the tarot cards.

For instance, she too said that my boyfriend and I were okay and that I needed to stop hanging out with the other guy and focus on my relationship. She knew that I was going to Europe that summer. She too said that I was going to have 3 children, 2 boys and a girl.

She had me in tears when she said that she could tell that there were two times in my life where I have hit rock bottom. One having to do with the death of a loved one, and the other being a relationship that ended. Probably TWO days earlier...if that...my boyfriend and I were talking about life in general and what we think has changed us as a person. I told him the first thing was when my grandfather died, and the second thing was when I broke up with my dirtbag ex boyfriend. (Long story but that guy was awful) Both of those situations took a lot out of me emotionally...my grandfathers death being the worse of the two. I can honestly say that nothing has ever compared. It was weird how the psychic picked up on that though.

She told me that for some reason she sees that a lot of negativity is attracted to me. She thinks that I''m a little bit closed off and it invites this energy and is part of the reason I''m not happy living in Houston.

I was really in awe by her reading. But when I was getting ready to leave she was trying to get more money out of me. She wanted to pray over some candle for my mother and I''s relationship. I thought that was so weird, since my mother and I had been getting along fine. I didn''t give her any money. I thought she was trying to scam me at that point. But a few weeks later my mother and I ended up getting into a very big argument and we didn''t talk for a month. Not sure if the psychic saw that coming or not.

Anyone else been to a psychic?

I kind of believe...my hubby and I had our pics taken of our aura. His was all orange, read and yellow. It looked like it was kinda splashed over him. Mine was blue with purple/pink and white above me. She said he was a very out-going kinda guy. And me more calm, grounded and shy. She said it''s never a dull moment with him, huh. She said we were a good match, which is funny. We are opposites. I just looked at her. She also mentioned that the white were good spirits watching out for me. I still believe in the goodness of people and that karma has a way of coming back to you, whether good or bad. So always do the right thing in life.

Just, wow.
I have a just wow expererience which I will share with you later when my daughter who is sick is asleep. It was a medium who told me so many things about my mum and her life and where she now. It gave me so much comfort and really helped me to make some choices about toxic family members. Its not one bit scary just very comforting albeit obviously very emotional. I feel very peaceful with the place my mum is now.

Ok my darling girl is out of pain for now and sleeping even if it is the meds making it happen.
Anyway I went to a lady who is like Australia''s answer to John Edwards. My mum died 20 years ago after a terrilble illness duringwhich my father left her and she basicly died of a broken heart.
The woman told me my mother came to her instantly and that she was with my brother who died at birth and thye were living on my mother''s family vineyard. She could not have possibly know this and then she told me about my mothers illness (again it was unusual and rare condition my mum had and she nailed it). She also explained why I never felt my mum near me as she was still to angry with my dad to come back.
She also said so many other things including my mother''s role in the ''place'' she was in now which was to care for children.
I felt so comforted and just a great sense of peace that my mum was not suffering and was aware of my own life and even a part of it.
I know that stories like mine can be challenging but this my story and I don''t regret one moment of being a part of exploring what lies beyond.

I had a phone reading with Sylvia Browne 10/2006, had to wait over a year to get it. Overall it was ok. All my questions were in regards to health/family. Not sure how I feel about it after the fact but I am glad that I at least got to try her out.

I'm also in the Houston area and saw a psychic once for fun with some girlfriends when I was in high school. I had no expectations going in, but she didn't really hit anything on the head. She DID however also try to get me to give her 200 MORE DOLLARS for something similar to what you're describing. Prayer and a candle or something like that. It was so long ago, so I can't really remember, but now that you're telling your story, I'm pretty sure it's standard practice here in Houston. Everyone here that I know that's seen a psychic tells me the same thing. I even saw a Dr. Phil episode where this psychic ring in Houston got busted for ripping people off. They listed Dr. Phil in the phone book under their 800 number, and answered the calls, and got thousands of dollars out of people who were despirate to talk to Dr. Phil.

That's not to say all psychics are liars. My mom has had an interesting experience with a psychic, and also the mom of a really good friend of mine in Florida. That psychic hit every nail on the head, including who her son was going to marry, and a complete description of the girl! Sure enough, he's marrying the same girl :)

I went to one once for fun with some friends. It was when I first started dating my DH. He told me my current relationship would not last long

. That was 6 years ago. Other things he said weren''t true either. Over all it was a waste of time and money.

I have been and some have been accurate to a degree.

But a friend of mie and her sister just went to one here who supposedly assists the FBI in crime solving and she knew things about my friend and her father and his death (which was awful and not typical at all)...had my friend in tears about it.

I went to a psychic once when I was like 17? She told me I'd meet my husband on a train when I was 27. I was married at 21 and had known my husband since he was still in diapers LOL

That said, I have had several very psychic episodes in my life, but NONE OF THEM were when I've *tried*. So while I do believe that people can tap in on things we don't understand, and that some of us are better at it than others, I would *never* trust someone who didn't right up front admit they were only accurate like 20% of the time or something like that. The more they claim to have it all under control the more I'd question it. I've had songs come into my head seconds before they started to play on the radio... I've communicated to my husband and seen him do what I said, but only when I was just thinking it not trying to think it to him... I've had dreams come true and they do feel different when you're dreaming them, I've had circular deja vous where I was putting my hand in my purse and for about half a second my eyes saw my hand in a *different* purse and then about 5 years later I was putting my hand in another purse and what I saw was my old purse - somehow those moments in time got switched and I've no explanation... the most striking was when I was in high school and I woke up late for school and was taking a shower and casually thinking about this dream or this vision I couldn't get out of my head while washing my hair and in it this girl holding her books in front of her with both arms around them and her long brown hair pulled up on the sides with barrettes and a miniskirt and a long purse walking past a doorway.... and then later in class I was bored as hell and shifted my weight from one arm to the other and looked out the open door just to see the SAME GIRL in the SAME clothes hair everything walking step by step exactly as if I'd rewound a movie and replayed it.... omg that freaked me out!! It's been 22 years and I still remember that... and the day john denver died I had dreamt of a plane going down into the water off the central coast of california with people watching and I woke up feeling so weird that I got online and started LOOKING for plane crashes of any sort and at the time I dreamt it he was still alive and it was a few hours later (I kept going online every 20 minutes looking for a plane crash) and it was like 4 hours later I saw that and got cold chills and went to wake up my husband but of course he didn't believe me because I hadn't told him about the dream *before* I saw the news @@. But he's seen me start humming songs that started playing on the radio seconds later... he knows I tap in on this stuff sometimes but I have NEVER EVER EVER EVEN ONCE been able to make it happen. So when psychics claim they can predict the future using their *will* I'm always skeptical LOL

I'm just going to add the one with my dh when we were newlyweds... we went to the store and they had caged wild cats in the parkinglot under a tent - florida is weird in 1991 LOL ANYWAY I told him I was going to look at them and meet him in the store, well I stayed there too long and he came back and was looking through the crowd at me and I was NOT drawing attention to myself cause I didn't want to leave yet and I figured he could look around for me for a bit longer LOL (brat I am!) so he starts to walk away and I could see his feet under the far edge of the tent (he was about 20-30 feet away) and in my head I said very clearly and without forethought, "I'm right here you silly" and immediately his feet stopped and he literall walked backward (didn't turn around) 5 steps, poked his head around the tent door and looked *directly* at me. I was like holy crap! LOL I asked him what made him stop and go back and he said, "I don't know, I just knew I'd see you" LOL! We've only had a few things between us - he is VERY unreceptive LOL Nothing as obvious as this one, just smaller things, predicting what each other will say but that can be excused as just knowing someone well.... I try to excuse everything as normal and coincidence but some things just defy this.... the john denver thing still creeps me out.

On a whim I went with a group of girlfriends to see an area psychic about 20 years ago. She didn''t have much to tell me but she went into a little detail about the man I would marry. She wouldn''t describe his physical characteristics, but she told me a little about what he was like and where he would be from. Honestly, I think she could get a sense of what kind of man would interest me from chatting with me. She did say that he would be from a large city near the water. My husband is from New Orleans. When I started thinking about it I realized that most big cities in the US are on or very near a body of water. LA, NY, Boston, Seattle, New Orleans, Chicago, Miami, Portland, etc. so I don''t know if she got that one right or just got lucky. At the end of the reading she tried to tell me that someone had placed a hex on me and that she could remove it for $200 and some crystal readings. I was outta there and never looked back. I guess the hex is still there.

Cehra-

I too have weird dreams that come true like that all the time!

The most crazy one was right before 9/11. I posted it on the dream thread from a few weeks ago. Still freaks me out to this day!

My grandma went to a psychic once that predicted she would have two marriages and six children. Her first husband died and left her with three kids, and when she married my grandpa he had three of his own... so she did end up with six kids and two marriages. She still talks about that even though the reading was done about 60 years ago, haha.

I have times where I dream events before they happen, especially every day mundane stuff, like thinking about someone I haven''t seen in a long time and then running into them the next day, stuff like that. Knowing when people in my family are going to pass a few days before it happens, stuff like that. Also, I often think something and then DH says it or does it even though neither of us have said anything. Like sometimes we will just be sitting on the couch and I''ll think to myself how thirsty I am and he gets up and gets me a water without even asking. Or we won''t even be having a conversation but he''ll say what''s on my mind or vice versa, so that''s pretty neat. I think a lot of it just has to do with how perceptive you are to your environment, but it''s in no way a controlled talent for most people. Like sometimes I swear that I can hear what other people are thinking and I''ll say something to them about it and they are like, how did you know about that. Not very often, just sometimes it hits me. It''s a weird come and go thing. Like sometimes you are more in tune than others. I have this weird habit of remembering things that could have never possibly happened, though. Like I remember once seeing this picture of a remote house in Europe (can''t remember where the picture was from) but I could have SWORN that I''d been there before, and I''ve never traveled out of the country in my life. I don''t know... it''s hard to explain because its just a weird, "I know that" type feeling. Kind of cool... but kind of creepy.

As for psychics, I''m not really sure I believe many of them. I''ve had enough of my own weird experiences to know that I don''t need one though, haha. I think a lot of them are just a scam, but some are quite perceptive and can be helpful. I think it would be a horrible fate to know everything before it happened and only be able to forewarn people about it though.

I had a similar thing happen. I forgot my wedding ring and I had been married for 2 years and she said I would be getting married in the next year. It made me laugh.
