My FI and I are searching for honeymoon options that won''t break the bank. A big part of expense is airfare, and I noticed today that tickets to Puerto Rico are only 380 a person after taxes and fees. This is over 100 dollars cheaper than any other destination I have found.

I have never been to Puerto Rico, but from what I can see from pictures it looks really nice. Has anyone been there that can give me some feedback? Would you consider it honeymoon worthy?

If not, do you have any suggestions? We basically just want a really nice tranquil beach with sightseeing, good food, and fun things to do!

Puerto Rico is really cool!!! If you go to the capital, San Juan, it isn''t really known for its beaches. There were a couple, but they weren''t "beautiful". They were relaxing and the sand was soft, not rocky. It has more historical sightseeing things to do there. Boqueron is on the southwestern side, and it''s really pretty. It looks like what you would imagine a tropical paradise to be. It was crowded (I went 2 summers ago), but it was worth seeing if you rent a car to drive out there. One that was recommended but that I didn''t go to was Luquillo Beach. It''s supposed to be pretty as well. I''m sure other areas have more of a beachy atmosphere if that''s what you want. El Yunque is the jungle, and I think it''s on the eastern side, and that''s supposed to be really cool to go through and see, but I don''t think it has a beach.

I don''t know how much this will add to your budget, since it''s potentially another plane ride from mainland PR, but look into Vieques and Culebra, 2 islands on the eastern side of PR (closer to the Virgin Islands). Supposed to be absolutely amazing. They were closed off from any development or tourism for a long time and have only recently started to become popular destinations. They have beautiful beaches and a bio-luminescent bay (bright blue glow of the water at night, due to microorganisms in the water) that''s very unique.

I have been to beaches near San Juan and they are nothing too special IMO, but Old San Juan is pretty and has lots of good restaurants and bars (and casinos if you like gambling).

We like SJuan, Mscushion is right, eastbond is the place ie Culebras is a must see. A cheaper way to enjoy it, take the $5 ferry [round trip] w/o reservations for cheap snorkeling great cusine in paradise. Fajardo beaches are also nice, can get crowded. Food in your hotel will be expensive, Old SJ has great italian food, Plaza diego is known for their french, Ajili Mojili for their traditional, when Museum of arts closes it turns into a great restaurant. Rain forest/hiking is fun, confy shoes a must.

I love Puerto Rico. I have a big group there in my business and I''m always looking for an excuse to go.

You can easily drive the entire island in a day. It is not that big. It only takes a couple of hours end to end.

When I go I generally stay with friends so I have little hotel experience. I have stayed at the Water Club. It is a cool art deco hotel on the beach in Isla Verde [15 mins from Old San Juan]. Linky. You might want to stay there a couple of nights.

The El Conquistador [on the east coast] is also very nice and would be worth staying at for a few nights too.
Next linky.

You might also consider Palmas del Mar [also on the east coast] which is a resort community. You can either stay at the hotel or rent a villa. Another linky.
