Does anyone have advice for purchasing heels that don''t slip off when you walk in them? All of my shoes are slingbacks, which I love, but for some reason I can''t find other shoes that have heels that stay on. How do most women do it? I''ve tried on a lot of regular pumps and the d''orsay style, which are really cute, but I''m like a kid in my mom''s shoes trying to walk in most heels! I''m a size 8, and if there''s slippage I try a 7.5, which usually means pinched toes. I''m hoping to expand my shoe selection beyond Joan & David slingbacks.

Sounds to me like you may Cinderella feet. Are your ankles and small and are your feet more narrow? Have you tried all fits of shoes...including the narrow lines? You might take a pair into a cobbler and see what he recommends. Have you tried the adjustable straps? You can always poke another hole to shorten the strap.

I think the average is larger than some. I am a swimmer and have long muscular legs...but they are not large enough to fill up boots. The stretch kind of boot forms around my shape and accentuates it...making me look like a working

gal. The clerks tell me the average boot buyer has larger calf''s than I have...so I won''t ever find a good fit. So I have the same problem you have with your slingbacks...but in boots. I am not average. I fall below average. Boo HOO.

Sorry if I wasn''t clear! I meant that slingbacks are the only things that stay on my feet. They''re perfect. I just can''t walk in regular heels.

I feel for your boot problems. I love them in knee-high black or brown leather with tights and dresses, but nothing ever really fits both the calf and ankle.

I have the opposite problem. Pumps are fine but slingbacks are a disaster. I can''t do D''orsays either.

Have you tried putting heel grips in your shoes? Often shoe boutiques give them out for free and if not, you can buy them cheaply from Payless shoes or the footcare aisle in the drugstore.

lxb - I have the same issue as you. I''ve found that buying the larger size (regular size) and putting a heel liner works the best. I''ve made the mistake and bought the 1/2 size smaller and paid the price later!! Too small shoes/heels are the worst!

Here are the liners that I''ve been using and I really like them.

Thanks for the idea! I''d never heard of such before... This makes me glad it''s the weekend and there''s time for shoe shopping!

for sling backs, check out the foot petals line. they have a slender foam piece to place on the back strap so that it doesn''t slip off.

oh, and i wanted to mention that i can''t wear full backs either. they just don''t stay on.
i do really well with sling backs, but sometimes the stretch and the backs slip too. anyway, the foot petals are wonderful.

HI:

I had a pair of mules that kept slipping off, so I put a pad (probably Dr. Scholls) under the ball of my foot which prevented my foot from moving around....anyway I know we all have favorite shoes to recommend, but the last pair of high pumps I bought were Areosoles and not only are they stylish but oh so comfy.

cheers--Sharon

Foot Petals are great but they don''t work for me on the ''heels slipping out of pumps'' issue. I put in ''Heavenly Heelz'', and ''Tip Toes'' in a pair of right size shoes and yet my feet still slip out.

I think the problem is due to the width of the heel instead of the length of the feet so the heel liners don''t really help. The liners are great for covering up seams to stop skin irritation though.

I try to get shoes that have narrower end sections (from arch to heel) and deeper front-top coverage (as in more of the top of the feet are covered) and hope for the best.

Either that or just backless shoes and boots.

I''ve found that my feet tend to slip more often when the inside of the shoe is synthetic rather than leather or other natural or similar to natural material... it just seems some synthetic stuff is more slippery.

Oh yes, DKS, I feel SO sorry for you and your teeny tiny legs

Buy narrows. Donald J. Pliner works well for me, even in some non-narrows. I have two pair of sandals of his (one narrow and one non-narrow) that work well because they are sandals with elasticized straps...my heels are especially narrow. Franco Sarto too. I don't always buy narrow, but these brands seem to run narrow. Also, Stuart Weitzman comes in narrow. I have issues with his shoes though, because my arch is so high.

This is a store near me with a big online selection of narrows and shoes that run narrow.

DKS, Have you ever tried Stuart Weitzman boots? My calves are too slender for most knee high boots (horrible looking gap around the top), but I found a pair of SW boots that were perfect for me.
