Like many of the people on here I made the mistake of going to Kay's. Doesn't every kiss begin with Kay? Anyways, that was many moons ago. I'm looking for an upgrade now, I finally purchased my Yellow Diamond this morning from Leibish!

My question is they will buy my wedding set back 100% for the $3100, as long as I buy something that's double.
Do you think it's a good idea to buy the setting from there for my new Yellow?
Or, should I attempt to sell it myself?
Since Jared is a sister store of the, they will buy back my rings as well.

Help!

So you are trading in an engagement ring and band you purchased for $3100 and then you need to spend another $3100 on the setting for the yellow diamond you just bought? Do you have an appraisal of the value of your original set? It could be worth more than what is being offered, and if not, you would still need to pay another $3100 for your new setting which more than likely will be less than what you have. Can you put the new stone in the old setting with a good bench person? You have to decide for yourself what to do, but the other option is to look through Stuller settings for what you like. They don't have prices, but when you see what you like you can ask a jeweler (Mom and Pop store vs National chains) how much the setting and stone placement would cost. That gives you a base price to look at.......and more information to make a decision. Those jewelry trade in programs always remind me of car lots......

So would have to spend $6200 on a setting from them????? The best jewelers on here that we can recommend wouldn't charge half that for a setting. There is a reason why you should stay away from Kay and Jared's....forget the trade in. I would just outright sell your set for whatever you can get back for it - expect 30-50% off what you paid and just be done with it. I wouldn't waste more money on a product that has lower quality and craftmanship at twice the price. That is NOT cost savings to me.

:( I know. I guess I just needed to type the crazy idea out to see how stupid it is.

Oh good I'm at least glad you realized. Some people still don't get it and still go back which drives me crazy- I mean if you want to waste money then I'm happy to post my address and you can send me a check in the mail!

Goodluck with selling your current set. You can post on RT for some ideas of what you can expect for it. Or you can cosign your ring with places like GOG or JbEG. Just read up on all your options to see what is best for you. can't wait to see your new ring!

I think while you may not get as much as you like back for your old ring, in the end you'll come out ahead just by not being roped into buying a "twice as expensive" setting for your new diamond.

Definitely in agreement with the above.

Wow, what a great site, but I think I'll hang on to it. We bought it many moons ago and it's just a poor quality 1ct princess cut- with a poor quality pave band. But, thankfully I found PS and we'll have better luck this time. :)
