Quality of Tiffany

Lately I have been hearing horror stories about the quality of Tiffany engagement rings. Diamonds falling out of settings during cleaning, etc. Is the quality still there in their jewelery specifically their engagement rings? How would you rate the quality of their diamonds on a scale of 1-10. I have had some personal experience with my sterling silver pieces breaking and my mom almost lost her pendent on her gold necklace because there was a problem with the clasp. What are your opinions on the quality of their jewelery. Is it what it once was? I still love Tiffany but I just wanted to hear from others about their experiences.

I haven't had any problems with the few pendants I own, two of which were pave (I lost one on vacation :angryfire:).

I don't put them in the ultrasonic but i wouldn't with any pave regardless of where it came from. But I have no experience with their rings. I'm curious too as I've eyeing the novo for the last few months.

You are asking a very provocative vague question.
What does "quality of their diamonds" mean to you?

Overall I know you will find many steadfast supporters of tiffany's jewelery on this board and an overall agreement that most of their bridal stuff (like ERings) are generally of high quality.

However you will also find a large majority on here who beleive the cut quality of their diamonds doesn't justify the premium and same or better be found for significantly cheaper.

Hi Paris! I'm a newbie on here, but I'll share the teensy bit of experience I have on this topic. I have a Legacy (see freshly posted Show Me the Ring thread) and was a bit apprehensive choosing this ring because I read on here all the horrors of even the best quality ring having stones fall out... With that said, I expressed this concern to the T&Co sales associate when my fiance and I were looking. He reassured us that they stand by the quality of their product and that, while unlikely, should you have a problem with the ring, they'll fix it for you. I've only had mine a few months so I cannot really say anything other than I've so far been very happy with the quality and service, which I know isn't saying much.

Thank you everyone for the insight.
Piggies, thank so much for sharing your experience. I am by all means a Tiffany girl and was pretty in love with the pics of the Legacy online (I had never seen it in person) but after hearing all the bad comments I went with my mom to our local jeweler and found out about Hearts on Fire diamonds but I never found a setting i absolutely loved. I went with my fiance yesterday to go see the wedding band he liked from Tiffany in person, which he loved, and ended up trying on e-rings while I was there. I absolutely feel in love with the Tiffany Embrace, it just fit my style and felt right. It's good to hear good news from someone who owns a Tiffany e-ring.

yeah at this point if you see something you love I would just go ahead and get it. My only thing to say about tiffany except the markup is that you can't really customize your ring, but if you have found one that you love then go for it!

Tiffany quality is very good. Tiffany prices are shockingly high for what you get. I think you can get the same or better quality without the price for the name from many of the PS regular vendors. But if the name is important to you, then its your money to spend how you like!

So i have 2 pieces by Tiffany that my husband has bought for me. My thoughts on them...apologizes not all of my issues are with their diamonds.

-I'm shocked that their gemstones and pearls are treated in a vaiety of ways. They are not natural.
-The Preimum is insane for diamonds. They wanted 11k for a 1 ct. I could have gotten something much larger somewhere else and I did. Love you PS!!!
-I had a necklace that had a minor problem so I took it to Tiffany's. They told me it was beyond normal wear and tear and charged me a FORTUNE to fix it. I could have gone to another company and had a new necklace completely made for the same price :nono:

Is this my imagination or did I see a Tiffany Bizet ring with a .15 ct diamond on their site under new jewelry for $1650?

No excuse for that.

After watching the VC&A engagement ring made entirely by hand on VC&A's site and seeing some of the low price points for VC&A engagement rings in their catalog, I'm not impressed with Tiffany.

I like their heritage, I want to like them, but most of their pieces are mass produced and their prices are inordinate in most cases.

JMHO.

that's the problem with Tiff nowadays unlike their old pieces which were hand made.

'Quality of diamonds' is a rather different question than any of the issues you've brought up. Those are all craftsmanship issues. The Tiff production staff and contractors are, in general, quite skilled and they take their reputation VERY seriously. They have a pretty good warranty and if you have a craftsmanship issue you need do no more than call them up and discuss it. I've never heard of a customer being treated badly at that level. They charge quite a bit for their branding and if you sprung for it, this is where it shows. Don't be shy about talking to them.

Please don't flame me, but I just wanted to point out that some of their settings are handmade. Cannot vouch for the Embrace, but I was told that the Legacies were handmade. My fiance was told that it was going to be 4-6 weeks if my stone needed to be reset since this was a handmade setting and I have a small ring size. That said, yes, everyone's right. Tiffany is very expensive and I have no doubt that you could get equal quality for less money.
BUT, if you love it and money's not the issue, go for it.

I have a Tiffany Lucida and I've had no problems with it at all. It's a patent cut so I couldn't get it elsewhere and there was no other ring that I adored so that was it. Their price wasn't too bad as we bought in the US so even after paying customs it worked out at a similar price to most rings of the same carat that we priced at home (Ireland). I have a few of their silver pieces too and although I do like them, I wouldn't spend a large amount of money on them.

I know they have some excellent quality pieces, and several of my friends have rings from there and are very happy. That said, I did not have a good experience trying to buy a piece from them last year. Both rings had major flaws-one came in with major flaws and the other had a minor flaw, but was terribly botched during sizing after I was assured it would look "like new". Since I did drive them a little crazy with the diamond specs (which they were happy to provide) and they had to order two things in for me, I walked away from the purchase completely feeling like a PITA customer-even if it wasn't my fault. I will say that I found the customer service at my store to be kind, helpful, and patient. I haven't stepped into Tiffany since all this happened, partly out of embarrassment for the waste of time on everyone's part, partly because the curtain of flawless Tiffany perfection has been pulled back...at least for me. I'm still disappointed about those rings, though!

I got my wife a Novo for her engagement ring. We had one of the side stones fall out. We didn't notice it until it was already gone. We brought it to the store we bought it at and they sent it off to NYC to have a stone put in for no charge. My wife loves her ring and the matching Novo band.

I totally agree with you regarding the premium for their diamonds. When my FF and I were looking for our engagement ring, we went there, and they tried to sell us a one carat princess cut ring for $14k. I believe that it was IF in clarity and F in color, so we asked if they had anything cheaper, with lower specs. The cheapest that they could find in their database was just over $10k, and it wasn't even a full carat (it was .91).

I think that their jewelry is beautiful, and I still own a few pieces from them, but I also believe that you can find something just as beautiful (and possibly even better), for less money. The Tiffany rings were in our price range, but we were looking for a larger carat weight for that price. We found our perfect ring at a local jeweler - the diamond is 1.53 carats, F color, SI1 clarity, with excellent polish and symmetry and beautiful sparkle, and it was between the prices of the two Tiffany rings.

There's many posts on PS about stones falling out - rings made/purchased from MANY companies. Tiffany isn't the only company! I do think their prices are highly inflated, but they also have some really pretty pieces. If a person can afford a beautiful ring from there, then go for it!

I have two necklaces from them and one did break when it was tugged on. The chain broke. Not the clasp. Tiff did fix it for free b/c it was within one year of purchase. The sales gal said it'd be $20 after that time-period.

Paris29, I hope you don't mind me biggy-backing on your post, but I'm curious...

To all the PSers with Tiffany diamond jewelry, do you have to pay extra for their warranty or is that included in the price?

Included in the (overly expensive) purchase price is the warranty, champagne shopping experience, cleaning for life, and a whole lot of butt-kissing....

*snort*

Love it.

Oh, and Piggies, I just saw your Legacy pix. OMGSTUNNING. Congrats!

Thanks Ras!

Paris, Ras- what rings are you two leaning towards??

I used to drool over the Legacy, but the only size we could ever consider would be a 0.3 carat, which, while beautiful, is just a bit too small for the $5K price tag. Recently I discovered and tried on the Round Brilliant Ribbon Ring (0.5 carat), and now I am in love.

I LOVE the Embrace; they don't have it in our Pittsburgh store, though. Boo. I'm a sucker for halos.
