Hey all,

Just had a bit of a question around gaps between the basket and stone. If you look at these two CADs, you'll see that in the second picture, side view, there is a gap between the top prong/basket and stone. In the first picture I've asked for it to be closer to the stone, so it's a little more curved. Would anybody be able to say if having it curved and touching the stone would have any impact on the security or integrity of the setting? It is quite a large stone so ideally I'd like it to be as secure as possible. Thank you

Is this a full custom setting?
Im not a fan of the design its more like the one size fit none stock settings for pears that rely on long prongs to make up for not matching the stone.

In my opinion the bar the arrow points to should just be inside and under the girdle with short prongs holding the stone.
This requires the setting to follow the contours of the stone very closely.

By moving the bar under and in a lot and using long prongs they can make it not very close to the size/shape of the stone.
This is why stock settings are made that way. They fit a variety of stones.
For a full custom piece your buying a setting that fits your stone.
