Question about certificate for sapphire

I own two sapphires. Both came with certificate when purchased. The blue sapphire has GRS report and the other has a local lab report from its origin. My question is, should I get AGL reports for them? I know AGL report is more desirable in United States when come to sell if I do not want them anymore.
Thanks for your time and reply.

If the answer is yes, which level of report should I request?

The level of the report depends on the size, quality and value of the stones. There are no set rules, of course - but generally speaking, in my opinion a brief would be okay for anything sub $2k (more than that if selling to the trade), while anything above 2-3-4k and especially if in finer quality could have a full format report made for it.

Regarding the choice of labs, well, these are just regional variations that come down to which lab is particularly well marketed or accepted where. AGL would be the best for the States; GRS, SSEF and Gübelin for Europe, and GRS and a few others for Asia. It's not really a concern when it comes to quality - all of these and others are more than capable of providing top notch testing - more of a thing of simplicity in your dealings, if desired or needed.

With that said, if you intend to sell to the trade, most people will buy with any decent report and re-make it to whatever suits them anyway if necessary. GRS is already going overboard unless it's a large, rare or a very good quality stone because it raises the cost in a competitive market, while local report acceptance varies with how well informed the client is about the lab and how consistent the lab's results are with those of other, bigger labs.

Tough to say without knowing what the stones are.

If you want to know Origin and Enhancements, the AGL Prestige Origin report is what you want.

Pricing varies by carat. I just sent in an emerald and received my report. The wait time now was 3 weeks but they have an expedite option for an additional charge.

Good luck!

Why are you looking for a report when they have one already? The GRS is good enough and the other will depend on how much it is worth and would only do it when ready to sell.

1+

The GRS report is as good and as respectable as any of the other big labs.
For the gem with just a “local report” it would be better to get an AGL report if your intention was to resell.

GRS should suffice unless you have some world class stone and you need to sell it. If it didn't have any lab report and the stone was pricey to you, then I would go with AGL.
