Question about groomsmen tuxes...

Traditionally do the bride and groom pay for the rentals? Fi was telling me every wedding he has been in, his tux was paid for him... I countered that with every wedding I''ve been in the guys paid for their own rentals.... haha so what did you all do or are planning to do? I want to determine whether to set extra money aside

I think if it''s in the budget then it would be a nice gesture, but I would then feel obligated to buy all of the BM dresses if I rented the tuxes. So it''s a catch 22, ya know?

I was just in a wedding, as was my FI. He paid for the tux rental himself, and it was EXPENSIVE! It cost way more than the dress I wore, which I got to keep.

My FI paid for the down payment for everyone and the boys had to pay for the rest of the tuxes.

If you pay for the tux, I think you have to pay for the dresses for your BM too.

The dudes have to pay for their own for our wedding. I asked what the norm was at Men''s Warehouse, they said that generally, the groomsmen pay for their own! That made me really happy!

FI's BIL paid for all 7 of the groomsmen's tuxes at his wedding last month!!!! Over $1000!! It was a much appreciated gesture, but it definitely was not expected. All of them were fully ready to pay for their tuxes. I would feel like I would have to pay for BM's dresses if FI paid for tuxes. Out budget definitely does not allow for tuxes to be paid for, so GM are on their own.

I don''t think it''s expected at all. Nice, but not expected. However, if you do pay for the tuxes I think it''s only fair to pay for the BM dresses, too.

Our groomsmen are paying for their own tuxes and my FI has always paid for his own. I guess if we had tons of money we didn''t know what to do with, I''d love to pay for the BM dresses and the tuxes, but it wasn''t in the budget.

We''ll be paying to rent the tuxes and for the bridesmaid dresses but I agree with the other ladies that traditionally, the GM pay for their own.

BTW, while we''re on the subject of tuxes, FI looked into renting one for our wedding and it was almost $200!!! He ended up going to Syms (like Filene''s Basment or TJ Maxx) and bought one for that amount. So just FYI, you might be able to buy one for the amount you have to pay to rent it.

We paid for all the BPs attire, but it wasn''t super expensive, the BM dresses came from GAP as did the GM shirts and the linen pants came from banana republic, but FI bought them all on sale and had a coupon.

However, if they had to wear tuxes, they would all have worn the ones they already own. FI, his brother and both of my brothers all own black tuxes that were purchased in the last two years and are very similar in style because of our annual Charity ball that we all attend each year. I would have paid for my dad''s tux, but that''s just me because if I send him with instructions, he will come back with one of those tweed coats with patches at the elbows and brag about the great deal he got!

I don''t think that anyone expects it, but it is certaily appreciated!
