Hello! I am very new to diamonds and had a question for the experts.. :) I’ve never been able to capture the dark hearts and arrows of my diamond, while I see others posting photos and videos and the black lines are striking and very apparent.

What is the reason behind this? Mine typically show up as white, but was actually able to capture 4 arrows for the first time for the purposes of this post

Edit: for reference, it’s an AGS triple zero with a crown angle of 34.9 and a pavilion angle of 40.9

It depends on the angles and the distance how much the arrows pop.
Move the camera closer to get them more visible.
If you have the grading report post the numbers from it or the report number here for more info.

thanks! Here’s the cert060F15A5-E5FC-4743-AEBE-B3D0FE8813E1.png

Take a toilet paper tube and hold it (or even cup your hand) over the stone and the arrows should appear black. They won’t appear black much in real life. It is more of a static thing where contrast shows, but your diamond is “clear” in real life, so all you should see is blinding slivers of white and colored light (especially at Home Depot, Costco, etc.)

Or use a black piece of cardboard or paper over the phone with a small hole for the lens to peep through

Exactly...a black phone case reflects black. I had to cover the back of my last phone with a white index card when I took diamond pictures before! I don't think most of us want to see black reflection in our diamonds!

Thanks :) I was just curious! Appreciate the insights
