Hello again. I'm back after getting great advice on my wife's wedding band and engagement ring. She is now pregnant and I'm looking to get her a pair of earrings. We went to the mall today and checked out Tiffany/Harry Winston/Cartier and her preference was either the Small Winston Cluster in diamond or just simple diamond studs.

The Winston ones are unfortunately out of my budget, but I was wondering if anyone would recommend a jeweler that could do something similar for <$10,000? If that sounds like it's not possible, does anyone have a recommendation between the standard online jewelry sources (bluenile/brian gavin/whiteflash) for a set of diamond studs? Would want them about 1.6-2.0 CTW set in platinum. Anything else I should look for regarding the settings or backings?

Check out @badis_jewelers
I have no affiliation other than I am a lifetime customer after they found me my dream stud earrings at E/VVS1 perfectly matched.
1.01 carat and 1.02 carat same specs both GIA certified.
Triple ex.
I never take them off!!!!
If they don’t have exactly what you want they will find it for you.

I think you need to be more specific, do you have restrictions for color and clarity? Or are you ok with H color, Si1?

Might be quite expensive to replicate the HW earrings, the jeweller would have to source all the stones at the same colour and clarity first. They are very pretty but studs might be more wearable on a daily basis. Whiteflash have multiple pairs in your budget round the 1.6ctw mark, don’t forget they have their upgrade program if you ever wish to go bigger!

Studs would be my choice if she doesnt already have a pair. They can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion while
some earrings seem like they are more for dress up/formal occasions.

Is she used to wearing platinum earrings? Does she have to have platinum due to allergies? Some people do not like platinum
for earrings because it is a heavier metal and can make the earring sag in the ear. (get input from others on this)

If she plans on possibly upgrading in the future I would do super ideals where its easy to upgrade.

A few pairs from WF

Gs/.80ish range

Those are 2 very different looks/style of earrings. I think you need to first clarify what she really wants

hi! i own both studs and cluster earrings, and love them both. but a word of warning on clusters. each pair is unique, and some fit better on some people than others. the shapes of the marquis/pears in the setting can be different, and some combinations look more attractive than others. i strongly urge you NOT to buy clusters as a surprise gift; it would be best if your wife could try them on before purchasing. thus, i'd go with studs this time. timeless, classic and eminently wearable. good luck!

Her engagement ring was G color Si1. So yeah, I think for earrings I would be fine dropping to an H. It should still look pretty white, right?

Got it. That's great info about the weight of the platinum that I didn't even think about. I just went with that because that's what her engagement ring and wedding band are, but sounds like 18K white gold would be better.

Yeah, I actually found this pair at Bloomingdales on sale for $2K. Going to see if she even likes it and if not, I will just return and go with a pair of studs. For that price I could also get her a smaller pair of studs. Definitely won't be a surprise gift.

If you can get this cluster for $2k I think its good option, it looks pretty!
I think if she has G Ering H should be OK for studs.. or a mix of G&H also should be fine, hardly tell 1 color difference for studs. I was upgrading my studs, I was looking at similar pair, and these are what I originally pick. I already bought them but then I let them go because I ended up getting F colors (I haven’t seen them in person), its slightly above your budget but the size is good, giving both Si1 it maximizes the size.

How would these look for matched pair?

I am checking out the studs right now and will be back.

But please do not get her the Bloomingdale's earrings! They are poor quality with I1 clarity!

I would absolutely go with studs before more dressy clusters. Studs are just a basic staple piece of jewelry to have before any other diamond earrings. These are the studs I recommend. I have had several pairs of WF studs and have upgraded them several times! I have always had H VS2, but you can always upgrade size or color later if she desires.

I'd go with the least expensive platinum settings if there's any possibility you will upgrade size later (or you could go with white gold this time if you think you'll upgrade later). So that would be the 3 prong martini or 4 prong basket setting. I prefer the 4 prong basket because some people say the pointed base of the martinis can stretch the piercing hole. I usually ask for slightly clawed prongs on mine rather than balls. You have to choose the metal and platinum adds about $100 over gold. I prefer platinum personally, and they are not heavy since the settings are tiny and my studs are over a carat each.

Just wanted to add that I went back to look at the gorgeous engagement ring you had made for her! These studs are a great size for now (or forever), but generally you can upgrade in the future to maybe a carat or a little more and stay in proportion to her ring!

good idea/plan. these look quite different from the harry winston clusters, but she may love them! and a pair of bonus studs, too; what's not to like? eta: as long as the bloomie's clusters are eye clean. at that tiny size, they may be.

They're being returned this weekend. I think after trying on the harry winston clusters, it just was just too much of a difference for her to get over.
