just a simple domed men''s band - I would like to every once in a while - no more than say 2x per year - polish this band to reduce the effects of the light surface scratches it gathers - but I would prefer to not take to to a jeweler from a time perspective - I have been told only rouge polishing is needed - so - can I do this myself - is it a matter of buying some compound and tools - and being very careful - if so what to buy, where to buy and how to do it? Is it something I could totally screw up?

Hmm, I am not real sure about this...is your band rhodium plated? Won''t the polishing take the plating off, hence needing to visit the jeweler for a redip?

no - it is 19kt white gold - an alloy of white gold that does not require plating to maintain its white appearance

The rouging process involves an abrasive and a polishing wheel...I would think that with white gold you would lose some of the rhodium plating in the polishing process. If you have your ring polished twice a year you''ll probably have to have it re-rhodiumed that often as well...and honestly I wouldn''t attempt any of this labor at home.

I would check with a jeweler or benchman about the 19k gold. Not sure if it''s white from outter surface to the core. If not then you might have to plate it which will be costly if doing it 2 x''s a yr, but if it is solid white throughout, I would guess not if it''s similar to platinum in that regard.

Let us know what you find out. Many people out there probably would appreciate this information as well.
