Question about reflections in photo of diamond

I apologize for what is probably a stupid question but in this photo the arrows in the top and sides of the diamond seem to have dark/black areas behind the arrows while the lower/bottom three arrows look “clean” With white areas behind them. I was told this is just a reflection from the picture being taken - is this correct? If so, these dark areas aren’t really there? Please see below.

This is a very beautiful diamond, well-cut. Nothing to worry about here!
 
It just has to do with the shape of the camera, the distance between the camera and diamond, the diamond's tilt.

Head or camera gets bigger or closer to the diamond and the diamond gets darker - as OP explained
