Question about replacing a basket in a setting

This is a picture of my original engagement ring setting (currently set with a blue CZ). I want to replace the stone with a pear shaped diamond or emerald. Previously, it held a ~8.1mm round diamond. Theoretically, do you think the basket could be replaced with one that holds a pear that is 8-8.1mm wide?

It’s platinum. I worked with DK recently and would definitely work with him again for this. I have my eye on a warm colored pear - I wonder if a halo would be possible!
