Question about setting for best light return in OEC

So I have an L OEC that I love, but it doesn’t sparkle or have quite the same look as it did before it was set. I don’t know much about how settings affect a stone, but I’m curious if the setting it is in isn’t quite doing it justice and what would be better. Here is one picture of it unset and a couple in the solitaire setting. Just curious about your thoughts. Thanks! (Or maybe I’m just crazy. I know I’m crazy because all I think about are diamonds and settings, lol! But humor me here, haha!)

I think it’s gorgeous. I understand what you mean based on my experience with unset v set, but your ring and diamond are stunning IMO!

Is the bottom of the basket open or closed? I noticed when I set my oec in a 6 prong and the bottom is closed or mostly closed, I see the metal under the culet and it looks... blah. Part of the charm is the open culet. I don't want to see metal under that!

It looks more like to me it has some gunk on the pavilion.
Have it professionally steam cleaned and see if that makes a difference.

Here’s what it looks like. Do you think it would be better to be more open than this or have the diamond sitting up a little bit with more of the bottom exposed?

I will try this! It just seems that ever since it’s been set it’s not quite the same, but maybe that’s just typical for any diamond and any setting.

Can you show us an example of a more "open" bottom. I'm curious how open it needs to be. TIA!

I am with Karl and think this stone is dirty. My OEC is near-totally enclosed in a bezel and it is the same or MORE lively than before it was set.

What does the underside of your setting look like?

Would love to see examples also!

Is it just me or am I seeing gunk on the pavilion when I enlarge the picture?
It is not uncommon when a diamond is set and the ring polished that some polishing compound gets on the pavilion where it can be hard to remove.
Steam is about the only thing that will remove it.

I’m not really sure. It might be metal that you’re seeing? Maybe these are better pictures? A8F1364B-1DB1-48D8-A898-896C06D35A4C.jpeg

I’m SURE it needs to be cleaned - no arguments there.

Come back when you’re clean and post new pics! It is a lovely stone and ring.

Could be a trick of the camera but it looks like the whole underside of the diamond is opaque with some kind of substance... looking forward to how you feel after the cleaning!

My bezel setting is kind of like a flying saucer. While it's open on the bottom, I don't think any light is getting in because of the wide top casting shadow over the pavilion.

Omg that pavilion is filthy!! :eek-2::lol: By open i just meant bigger than the little hole it currently has. Not to let light in, but i prefer to see skin thru the culet rather than metal.
